Oversized baggage

What to do if your bag is bigger than our standard allowance.

This page tells you about oversized baggage and how much you might need to pay to take it onboard one of our flights.

For information on taking a piece of sports equipment on a flight, head over to our Sports equipment page.

We understand that bags come in all shapes and sizes, so if you’re bags are bigger than our standard dimensions, you might need to pay a fee at the airport to take it onboard.

How big is oversized?

We classify oversized baggage as an item that is larger than our standard baggage size of 90 x 75 x 43cm (35.5 x 29.5 x 16ins).

If any of your bags are over 190 x 75 x 65cm (75 x 29.5 x 25.5in) or the three dimensions of a piece of luggage is more than 330cm/130ins, you won’t be able to check them in as baggage, but you might be able to fly them as cargo. Visit our friends in Virgin Atlantic Cargo to find out more.

Oversized baggage fees

For any bookings made after 17 March 2018, the fees for oversized baggage are currently GBP 65 or USD 100 per item.

If you booked your flight before 17 March 2018, the fees for oversized baggage are 40 GBP or 65 USD per item.

For departures outside of the UK and US, the US Dollar fee will be converted to the local currency.

What to do if you have oversized bags

Any oversized bags can only be paid for at the airport. You don’t have to do anything in advance. Just head over to one of the check in desks and a member of our airport team will be able to take your payment and show you where to take your bags.
