New uniform launch

We're bringing the glamour back to flying with our sparkling new Vivienne Westwood-designed uniforms, launched at a spectacular party at London's Village Underground earlier this week.

Wearing the wow factor

Our uniforms have always been one of the things our staff and customers love most, and as we revealed last year, our collaboration with Vivienne Westwood is a long-term partnership between the two British brands, with original design and sustainability being vitally important to both Vivienne and Richard Branson. All 22 uniform pieces have been designed with the environment in mind, with many items produced using recycled materials - in particular a recycled polyester yarn made from used plastic bottles. The suit fabrics also have a nano finish which extends their life and enables the clothes to retain their colour and finish for longer. All items were also developed with Closed Loop Recycling - a new technology which takes worn polyester clothing and turns it back into fibres that can be woven again into new fabrics.

And as you'd expect from Virgin, the new uniforms are the epitome of glamour and style. Vivienne has created a futuristic look which references her enduring interest in 1940s French couture, as well the tailoring heritage of Savile Row - and skilfully captures the effortless chic our cabin crew are renowned for.

Even Debbie Harry - undoubtedly one of the current and previous century's most stylish icons - loved the uniform and wore the new red jacket on stage during an incredible set of Blondie hits, dedicating the song 'Mile High' to members of our crew.

For Richard Branson, the event brought memories of the last 30 years flooding back. "The whole night was a bit of a flashback," he said. "While we sold Virgin Records to help strengthen Virgin Atlantic, the night exuded a spirit that embodied both companies. The drinks flowed, the music was loud and the crowd looked as stunning as the uniforms. "Thanks to all the staff for making it such a memorable night, and thanks to Vivienne and Blondie for making it go with a bang. One Way or Another, we've made it to 30 years, and here's to the next 30."
