Introducing Toddle - a new skincare range for adventurous children.
Toddle is a brilliant new range of skincare products designed to protect children on outdoor adventures, and we're delighted to offer it for sale onboard our flights. This is the story of Toddle, how it all started and a family connection to us here at Virgin Atlantic.
During a nine-year career in the Royal Air Force, Hannah Saunders travelled the world, discovered a love of adventure, and met Ed, her husband. Next came their two children, Etienne, age 7 and Christian, age 3. Together as a family they all love the outdoors and enjoy skiing, walking and canoeing trips.
During this time, Hannah became frustrated with the choice of products that could protect her children from getting the chapped lips and burned cheeks that came with their outdoor lifestyle. So Hannah decided to have a go at making some in her home kitchen. She wanted something kind to the skin, effective and made from the best natural ingredients. It turned out so well that it immediately became a hit with the other parents and children at her toddlers group. Realising she was onto something good Hannah decided to take it to the next level. She took some business advice, secured investment, and embarked on two years of research, development, testing, and approval. Along the way, Hannah created her own brand and recognised that she shouldn't go to market with just one product. So she extended it to a whole skincare, clothing and gift range. She now employs eight people and from early next year will be selling through Ocado and in the United States. Not bad for something that started with chapped lips after a day hiking in the Scottish Highlands.
Another big moment for Hannah was getting introduced to Colette Whyte, who looks after our onboard Retail Therapy range. "We are thrilled to have partnered with Toddle to bring our customers an exclusive 'Holiday Essentials' gift set onboard our flights," said Colette. "It's an exciting opportunity for us to offer our customers the chance to experience the children's ethical skincare products, including essentials such as sun spray, insect repellent, a refillable bottle and sanitising spray, as they head off on their travels. We hope our customers enjoy the products as much as we do."
Green as well as good
Not only does the Toddle range protect your children from the elements, but it also treads lightly on the planet, with all products being Vegan and as natural and ethical as possible. Here are just some of the initiatives you'll be buying into when you purchase a Toddle product.:-
- Instead of plastic packaging, Toddler use sustainable sugar cane bioplastics, recyclable glass and aluminium.
- The probiotic hand gel helps the immune system, helping to combat bacteria resistance.
- Their eco-snoods are made from 3 recycled plastic bottles, so instead of ending up in landfill, this circular fashion keeps your neck warm!
- They are introducing more refillable products to the range; using 80% less plastic.
- Their carbon footprint is reduced by using UK businesses for ingredients, formulators, packaging and contract fillers.
- All products are PETA approved as cruelty-free and vegan.
- The Toddle packages are sent out in recycled boxes with biodegradable, compostable bags.
- All paper is FSC assured.
A business with a big heart
An early decision in the development of the Toddle brand was that it would be a business that also did good. To that end, one per cent of profits from Toddle go to 'Love The One', a charity run by two inspiring doctors from the UK, Mary Cusack and Cat Morris. For twelve years they have operated in one of the poorest parts of India working tirelessly with communities, building care centres, providing access to life-saving medication and treatment to children and families who would otherwise have nowhere else to turn.
Taking off across the globe
We can't wait to see what Hannah does next with this exciting venture. As we explained in our recent blog, we are unique among airlines in being able to expose smaller and emerging brands to international markets. We couldn't be happier having Toddle onboard, giving you peace of mind for when you set off to explore the world with your young ones. And as for Ed, her husband? After retiring from flying fast jets for the RAF, he is now a Senior First Officer on our Boeing 787 fleet. Flying you, as well as his wife's products, around the world to the next great adventure.
