When you're looking to wander around Fisherman's Wharf trying out the various dining options, enjoy the entertainment on Pier 39, and wander through the shops on Ghirardelli Square - well you couldn't pick a better location for your hotel than the Kimpton Alton. Just a stones thorugh from all of the above, you're also only about 15 minutes walk from San Francisco Bay where you can take the ferry to Alcatraz. Back at the hotel the rooms offer very comfy beds, and cosy vibes that will allow you to relax after a day exploring Golden Gate City. Even better, they offer complimentary tea and coffee to kick start your day, and a complimentary wine and beer hour to wind down at the end of it! Couple that with the option of in-room spa treatments and you really will feel relaxed on this city break. The service on hand at this hotel is indeed top notch - there's even complimentary scooters on hand to use for the little ones to roam the city!

A special shout-out to the housekeeping, security, maintenance and all the rest of the hotel staff who are prompt, polite and efficient. The entire staff provides outstanding service with a smile. The location of the hotel is the best as it's close to all the major attractions in the area. On another note, we only wish there was a more affordable restaurant with a range of choices on site for breakfast and we hope this will happen one day. Keep it up and we will be back !

We stayed as a family in two 'Queen Essential' rooms, which were quite comfortable and reasonably quiet. It is a pet friendly hotel but you can request a pet free room.

The location is excellent for a tourist, being a very short stroll to Fisherman's Wharf and of course, Pier 39, and the tram cars are literally on the next corner. As you would expect, there is no shortage of places to eat around the area,
The hotel has a happy hour in the lobby between 5-6pm. A DJ plays in the lobby on a Friday & Saturday night which is different and trendy/quirky, as is the vinyl record player in your room.
Our room was clean and was serviced daily, but little things let them down - for example, there was a Nespresso machine, but no teaspoons! (We had to constantly request them after each daily service)! The cleaners would take the glasses but didn't replace them, nor did they replace tea, coffee and creamer in the same quantity that had been used. Not major problems by any means, just an annoyance.
And something to remember - although you pay for it in your booking via the service charge (or Urban Destination Fee), the daily water isn’t placed in your room, you have to request it at front desk. Once again, not a major issue but quite an annoyance especially if there is 5 or 6 people checking in at the time you happen to be wanting to request water. (Seems to me this is an easy fix by getting the cleaners to place the water in your room - together with teaspoons, tea, coffee and creamer, etc)! :)
The Abaca restaurant is nice but quite expensive – A$300 for dinner for two including a glass of wine. The room itself is quite stark - certainly not warm and inviting.

Room comes with a record player, Nespresso machine, and Atelier Bloem toiletries. You can borrow a plant from the lobby to accompany you in your room if you so desire. Abaca restaurant (located on the first floor) serves Filipino cuisine and can be very…

Room comes with a record player, Nespresso machine, and Atelier Bloem toiletries. You can borrow a plant from the lobby to accompany you in your room if you so desire. Abaca restaurant (located on the first floor) serves Filipino cuisine and can be very lively. There is a DJ in the lobby on some nights. It is a very short walk to The Cannery, the Anchorage, Scoma’s, and the Buena Vista cafe. It is also an easy walk to Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39. It looks like airline crew members tend to stay here.
