Morning: Brunch is an institution in Atlanta and each neighbourhood has its favourite spots. When in the south, do what the locals do and start the day right with a hearty meal, washed down with a cocktail or two. As it’s Georgia, you’ll probably find some Southern spins on breakfast staples, such as waffles loaded with pan-fried chicken, or eggs benedict with chicken instead of pork.
Afternoon: Spend the afternoon eating your way around Atlanta’s most delicious food markets. Based in a 1920’s warehouse, Krog Street Market is a favourite of local foodies. From a full meal at a home-grown restaurant or bakery, to market stands selling gourmet souvenirs, it has everything you could wish for, and more. The historic Sweet Auburn Curb Market is another excellent stop for gourmands. Widely considered one of the best food markets in the country, its 20-something eateries and shops are a prime example of the scope of Atlantan cuisine.
Evening: Hearty, soulful and warming, Southern fare is the ultimate comfort food. Once considered commonplace, it’s recently been experiencing a revolution, with modern twists on traditional dishes cropping up at eateries across the city. Wherever you choose from the hundreds of options available, the number one dish to try is, of course, fried chicken. Devilled eggs, mac and cheese, cornbread and Georgia shrimp go down a treat, too.
