Morning

In Orlando, it’s best to get started bright and early – you’ll want to fit as much theme park adventuring into your day as possible. Kick off the day’s amusements at Universal Studios Florida, which opens its gates promptly at 9 am. Designed for movie lovers of all ages, the park has plenty of thrills (its Incredible Hulk and Revenge of the Mummy roller coasters offer a perfect hit of adrenaline) as well as gentler experiences for young ones, from the breathtaking E.T. Adventure ride to Fievel’s Playground, inspired by the brave cartoon mouse. However you choose to spend your morning at the park, don’t forget to stop for a bite at one of its many themed eateries.

Afternoon

Once you’ve taken a breather, it’s on to Universal’s second Orlando park, just next door: Islands of Adventure, which also happens to be home to everyone’s favourite boy wizard. At The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which immerses visitors in J.K. Rowling’s magical universe, families can shop for wands on Diagon Alley, sip (non-alcoholic) butterbeer at Hogsmeade, and even hitch a ride on the Hogwarts Express. Feeling peckish? Stop for a crowd-pleasing snack at the Leaky Cauldron.

Evening

Wind down the day at Disney Springs, which offers a more relaxed take on Orlando’s theme park experiences. Formerly known as Downtown Disney, the walkable destination comprises four “neighbourhoods,” which feature shops, restaurants, and lively street performances. Depending on what the kids are craving, you can dine on everything from crepes and Cuban sandwiches to pizza and burgers. A cone full of handcrafted ice cream from Vivoli il Gelato makes for a sweet conclusion to a busy day out in Orlando.
