“2 Night Safari - Enjoyable”
Feb 10, 2026Janet D
Stayed here as part of a post cruise package. Lodges were lovely, big bed, outside shower, in room bath/toilet/sink - lovely seating area overlooking the safari park where we saw giraffes and springboks walking past. We stayed 2 nights, which included breakfast, lunch and dinner and had the choice of 4 safaris - the first on the afternoon of arrival, two the following day and a final one on the morning of departure.
We saw lots of animals on our game drives - lions, buffalo, elephants, elands, monkeys, hippos, rhinos, ostriches, giraffes and more and lots of birds too.
Game drives were advertised at certain times and sometimes they left a little earlier than advertised but you could always get on one of the vehicles.
Enjoyed the experience, and the guides were knowledgeable and helpful.
Weather was good for the most part, apart from a big storm the night before leaving with lots of guests being flooded in their lodges - luckily ours only let in a little water but advisable to keep cases etc off the floor.
Well worth the visit in our opinion.

It is actually with a heavy heart that I write this negative review because the trip itself was very enjoyable. We booked the sunset safari (highly recommended since the animals come out to drink when it gets cool). There was a problem with the website, and we received a error message twice when ordering the safari. I switched to another card and the payment went through.
We enjoyed the trip. It was touristy and not too wild, but we feel the animals had plenty of room to live a positive life (except maybe the lions who have given up on life). The guide was informative and charismatic. The food was merely ok, but we didn't expect much from this buffet type service, and we were here for the tour anyway, not the food. It was after the trip that the problems started.
When I got home, I saw that I was charged for the first two booking attempts. I informed the company quickly and was immediately asked for proof of these payments which I provided. Then I heard nothing for weeks. I sent them another email reminded them. No reply. Finally, I threatened to seek legal help and write poor reviews on their site. That finally got some action. I was given a friendly apology, was told that a lot of people have had similar problems, and I would be getting a refund within a week. After two more weeks, I sent them a reminder, and as of yet, I still have no reply.
I understand that websites can have problems, and refunds take time, but the poor communication does little to help me trust that this wasn't an attempt to swindle customers. And the fact that I never got another email tell me things were delayed further don't help the situation. I don't want to accuse the company of this kind of wrongdoing, but I can say that their lack of communication has made me a bit suspicious. I've not gotten legal help from my bank to fix this problem. As I see that others have similar experiences, this make me feel as if this company is not to be trusted.
“Average to say the least”

I have visited 3 game reserves previously in South Africa and Aquila was without doubt the least enjoyable and impressive.
We drove there ourselves and the light lunch was very good. After that it was very disappointing.
The shambolic filling of the vehicles to view the animals was laughable. Surely if you have numbered buses, you allot visitors to them so it is an easy and smooth operation.
Compared to other reserves visited, this felt a little bit like “spot the animal!!” Our driver was remarkably uninterested and I think my knowledge of the animals was more than his as he hardly said a word.
This is only a 3 star due to the friendly girl on reception, clean toilets and decent lunch.
My tip - drive further out and go to a game reserve for animal lovers and not just to fill the coffers of a “ private game reserve.”
