Where do I start?
Our stay at Jock Safari Lodge was truly an experience we will never forget. From the moment we arrived at Fitzpatrick’s, we knew we were somewhere special.
The accommodations were beautiful. Our room was spacious, comfortable, exceptionally well-maintained, and spotless. But what really stood out was the staff. Everyone we encountered was warm, friendly, and genuinely interested in making our stay special. They were always willing to answer our questions, share a conversation, or simply make us feel at home in the middle of the African bush.
And then there was the food!
I don't think the food receives nearly enough attention in the descriptions of Jock Safari Lodge. Every meal was an experience in itself. The food was absolutely delicious—some of the best meals we have ever had. There always seemed to be something wonderful waiting for us, and the desserts were simply incredible. After a long day on safari, sitting down to such wonderful meals was something we looked forward to every day.
But the part of our experience that made it truly unforgettable was our guide, Patrick.
Patrick was so much more than a safari guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly enjoyable to spend time with. His knowledge of the animals, their behavior, and the African bush was remarkable. No matter how many questions we asked, he always had an answer and was happy to explain what we were seeing.
Because of Patrick's skill and experience, we were incredibly fortunate to see the Big Five and so much more. We saw male and female lions, including their cubs; leopards during both the day and night; water buffalo; countless elephants; and, to our great excitement, a rare black rhino.
We also saw hippos, hyenas, African wild dogs, warthogs, giraffes, and an amazing variety of birds and smaller wildlife. Every game drive seemed to bring another unforgettable moment.
One particular experience with Patrick really demonstrated just how exceptional he is at what he does. During one of our drives, Patrick spotted fresh lion tracks. While most of us probably would have driven right past them, Patrick immediately recognized their significance. He carefully followed the tracks, reading the bush and interpreting the signs along the way. Eventually, we came upon a lioness.
It was one of those moments when you simply sit quietly and take it all in. Watching that lioness in her natural environment, knowing that Patrick's experience and instincts had led us there, was something we will remember for the rest of our lives.
Patrick seemed to have an incredible sixth sense for the bush. His keen eyes noticed things we would have completely missed, and his knowledge allowed us to experience wildlife encounters that we never could have found on our own.
Looking back, it wasn't just the animals we saw that made this safari so special—it was how Patrick helped us experience them. He gave us a deeper appreciation for the environment, the animals, and the incredible place we were privileged to visit.
Jock Safari Lodge gave us memories that will stay with us for a lifetime. The beautiful accommodations, wonderful staff, outstanding food, and spectacular wildlife were all exceptional. But having Patrick as our guide elevated the entire experience to something truly extraordinary.
We cannot recommend Jock Safari Lodge highly enough. If you are considering a safari in Kruger, this is an experience you should not miss. And if you are fortunate enough to have Patrick as your guide, you are in for something very special.
