It's been a year and a half since my last visit to South Africa and I'm glad it's only been that long. In January 2025 I was back, not only in the country itself, but also at the Kruger Gate Hotel, where I once again spent a great week. I have to say that I had a great time at the hotel again and if anyone wants to enjoy a pleasant stay, great food and top class service in the African wilderness, they will not regret choosing the Kruger Gate Hotel. I really recommend it. However, it is necessary to be constantly aware that the hotel is not only on the border of the Kruger National Park (really only a short distance from Paul Kruger Gate), but that it is either surrounded by parkland or private game reserves on all sides. Coupled with the fact that it is an open air hotel, this means that wild animals (at least cheeky monkeys trying to steal any food from guests :-)) can be encountered right on the hotel grounds. While it's amazing to look out over the Sabie River from the Infinity pool, in and on the banks of which it's common to see elephants, buffalo, hippos, and sometimes even lions or leopard, it's not uncommon to see some wildlife behind your back :-). Like last time, I didn't miss the opportunity and went to the game drive together with the other guests. This time it was a morning drive, because it's hot in January and I didn't really want to go on a full day drive because of that :-). Anyway, during the day even the animals try to hide from the heat in the shade, so the morning drive was plenty for me. And it was worth it. After signing out the necessary paperwork at the hotel reception, we set off at about 5.30am and our friendly and knowledgeable African wilderness guide Fortune set off with us first towards Skukuza, then south to Berg-en-Dal, back to Skukuza and back to the hotel where we arrived at 12.00pm. The hotel provided us with a breakfast bag, so we were taken care of on that aspect as well. We didn't get to see the complete African Big Five, but we did see two lions, one leopard, buffaloes and elephants (that's four members of the Big Five) + a lot of other animals and at least I was completely satisfied. And the absence of a rhino was amply made up for by three wild dogs, which are also not easy to come across. I've been going to South Africa and Kruger Park since 2000 (this was my eighth trip) and I only saw wild dogs for the first time last time, in August 2023. And even then I thanked the Kruger Gate Hotel for them, because it happened during a full day drive. I'm glad the hotel made sure I had such a great experience this time too. Fortune proved to be a great guide who knows the wilderness and can talk about it in a passionate and interesting way. Helpful, friendly, patient, the game drive with him was simply an experience. The fact that there are cars leaving the hotel daily with guests to the park is a testament to the guests' satisfaction and that the hotel guides are simply excellent. If I wrote above that I can only recommend the Kruger Gate Hotel, I would add in conclusion that I equally recommend the hotel organized game drives. Radoslav Hlusek (Slovakia) Read less

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Kruger gate hotel. Our safari guide was rude and uncooperative, circling the same area repeatedly and expressing discomfort with the heat after only an hour. Despite paying R4,000-R5,000 for the experience, we were unable to fully enjoy it. I reported the incident to the Guest Relations Manager, who promised a partial refund and asked me to write a review. However, since providing my banking details on January 5th, all communication has ceased, and my follow-up emails and calls have been ignored. This experience highlights the hotel's poor customer service and dishonesty. I caution others to be aware of these issues when considering a stay. Read less
