It may feel a million miles from anywhere, sitting at the foot of an old volcanic crater and hidden among Tamboti trees, but this Pilanesberg National Park pad is actually just a few hours’ drive from Jo’burg and 33km from the fun of Sun City. Its location makes it the ideal lodge for families, first-time safari seekers, and those wanting to mix game drives with Sun City’s attractions. Its handy setting doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on the safari experience though, with this malaria-free game reserve home to the famous Big Five and other photo album-favourites, and Black Rhino Game Lodge overlooking a popular wildlife-attracting waterhole.

You never gave up in your quest to ensure that we were able to see the animals we longed to see. We are very appreciative and a big thank you . Blackrhino is definitely worth a visit. Read less

What an experience, didn't realise it can be 3 hour journey from Tampo Johannesburg Intl airport. Staff greeted us on arrival and was ready for us to start our first safari but just arrived we opted for the morning. Was shown our lodge absolutely stunning great design two showers one inside and the other outside. Secluded so there was privacy but not to my travelling companion's taste but I thought it was great. All the necessary amenities complimentary toiletries, 2 wash basin and shower. Tea and coffee making facilities with complimentary biscuits. A personalised welcoming note was in the room to greet us. Rooms were cleaned daily and beds turned down at nights. TV was able to log into YouTube. Food, meals were cooked and presented to a high standard. Breakfast was lovely, great selection of continental and cooked breakfast of your choice. Dinner given a choice a starter, main and desert. Compliments to the chef, the cooked oxtail was beautifully cooked soft and tender. Brunch was great so much choice. First day met by monkeys were warned to ensure rooms are locked and belongings were not left unattended and kept secure. They were a pleasure to behold a pleasant highlight of the holiday. A buffet dinner was served on our final evening. The staff are wonderful and treated us well, very well 👏. They were helpful and always willing to assist in any way. Safari, 2 safari and day 6am and 4pm. Due to season it was freezing must layer up thin fleece blankets were provided it was cold 1 - minus 3 degrees. Safari is charged 250 random per night, but we'll worth it..First morning saw a cheetah in the distance, elephant, giraffe, impaler, warthog. Second day a herd of elephants, rhinos buffalo's and just a were heading back to the lodge there it was a lion...oh wonderful was that 👌 On the safari we would always stop have toilet break and offered refreshments. All the safaris was well organised and felt safe at all times. Bucket list ticked, absolutely brilliant from start to finish 👏 The standard of accommodation and hospitality was on another level. Wow...wow...wow.. would highly recommended. You done South Africa 🇿🇦 proud 👏 Read less

Everything was well organized from start to finish. The game drives were a highlight. The safari trucks are modern and comfortable, and our ranger, Steon, was excellent—very knowledgeable and passionate about wildlife. We saw so many animals, it truly exceeded expectations. An extra bonus was that my friends were staying at Umoya during the same days. Thanks to great coordination between the two lodges, we were able to have dinners together and even joined a few game drives as a group. Huge thanks to both teams for making that possible! Special shout-out to ranger Steon from Black Rhino and Mrassie from Umoya—you both gave us an unforgettable time. Big up to the collaboration between Black Rhino and Umoya Lodges! Read less

The stay was excellent! All the staff were concerned about our well-being, always smiling and asking if they could help with anything. The food was excellent every day; we thought we would be hungry between meals due to the lack of lunch (since brunch is served), but on the contrary, everything was very well served, and often we weren't even hungry by the next meal. The game guide (Mario) was very attentive, trying to find the Big Five and explaining the animals we encountered. It was an incredible experience, and we felt extremely well taken care of. The room is super confortable. Read less
