The hotel

Seemingly lost in the vineyards and foothills of Jonkershoek Valley, this hideaway is wrapped in hypnotically beautiful scenery – but is just five minutes from the historic town of Stellenbosch. Since the first vines were planted more than 300 years ago, Lanzerac Hotel & Spa has become a haven for oenophiles. And its legacy lives on, with its ancient oak trees, historic wine collection, original design features, and time-honoured viticulture techniques still used on this working wine farm. You can drink in vineyard views from your elegant room, which opens onto the estate’s gardens. And you can drink in the world-famous Lanzerac wines in the tasting room, after a tour of the bottle-lined wine cellar. On the off-chance you fancy a break from the wine, you can indulge in spa treatments or relax in the gardens with a picnic from the gourmet deli.

I thoroughly enjoyed spoiling my mother — a small gesture compared to all she’s done for me over the years. It was lovely to get away for the night, relax, and share some quality time together. I thoroughly enjoyed spoiling my mother — a small gesture compared to all she’s done for me over the years. It was lovely to get away for the night, relax, and share some quality time together. What made it even more special was having my daughter visiting from the USA — the cherry on top of a memorable experience. Three generations together, laughing, reconnecting, and making beautiful memories. The setting was perfect, the service warm and welcoming, and the entire stay was just what we needed. A truly heartwarming experience that we’ll all cherish for a long time. Read less

My husband and I treated ourselves to a weekend gateway in Lanzerac during winter months, and it was the most delightful time. South Africa is known to be cold in winter, because buildings are not insulated or heated properly, but every area at Lanzerac was so cosy - from the lounge area with a fireplace, to the guestrooms with underfloor heating and the spa with heated pool and jacuzzis. We got a free upgrade to a fabulous room with a ton of complimentary goodies, including wine, chocolate and a wine tasting. Dinner at their Tap room was excellent and surprisingly affordable for that level establishment. We also rented bicycles one morning and cycled to the Jonkershoek nature reserve. All staff was super friendly and helpful. All in all, a wonderful stay, I look forward to being back. Read less

We have been staying at Lanzerac for many decades and have witnessed its extraordinary transformation over the years. Today, it is without question the best-run hotel, with perfect access to Stellenbosch and the surrounding wine country, just a short drive from Cape Town. This boutique historic hotel is truly one of a kind. Many attempt to replicate its charm and quality, but none come close. Set in the most beautiful part of the winelands, Lanzerac combines timeless character with exceptional service, delivered by the friendliest and most professional team. We return year after year, thinking it cannot possibly improve, yet the team continues to raise the bar, refining both the property and the service with a focused drive for excellence. This experience was booked for us by a travel counsellor Ali Parker back in the uk We could not have wished for such an experience Ali as provided us with from our flights to our Safari, then on to this beautiful landscaped vineyard with such beautiful scenery and the 1692 buildings with so much character, nice food and pure elegance. Plus a very special gift of sparkling wine and cakes we received on the eve of our 40th Wedding Anniversary. One more thing if you wander why the grass is so green, we experienced the rain on our visit. Which did not affect us and obviously we have no control of the weather and plenty of umbrellas are available if required, but what ever the weather the location is beautiful, so a massive thank you to Ali for arranging and a massive thank you to all the teams at Lanzerac Hotel and Spa. Kindest Regards Mr & Mrs K Pritchard Read less

Total disappointment experience! Definitely not on my repeat stay list. Poor response and lack of appropriate solution to problem with the room.
