The hotel

A veritable castle in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is an impeccable symbol of indulgence and pedigree. Offering the luxury and services of a world-class hotel, all guest rooms are beautifully furnished with every attention to detail observed. Facilities include a state-of-the-art health club, accessible 24-hours a day, with indoor heated swimming pool and saunas. Pilates and Yoga classes are available at the Sitka Studios or treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering at the Absolute Spa. There’s also some prime shopping in the lobby with designers stores selling plenty to tempt you! Although you’re close to plenty of restaurants and bars in the downtown area, the Fairmont’s very own Notch8 Restaurant & Bar is the ideal place to relax and watch the world pass by. Named after a train’s top speed, achieved only by the most skilled conductors, the restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific railway. A traditional afternoon tea is also served here daily — for a special occasion, add a glass of champagne or, if the kids want to tag along, childish delights include Bubblegum Tea, fresh strawberries and cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

Stayed for 4 nights. Room was great, breakfast was fantastic. Bit of roadworks going on to resurface the driveway drop off. Reception is always busy and you can wait sometime (ie a longtime) to be attended to. When you arrive the attendants are very efficient collecting your bags and whisking them off to the bag storage…..so it is annoying to try and access your bags from storage to get a jacket etc (but the attendants help out). Can’t fault the breakfast but the portions are SO LARGE. Long walk from our room to the ice machine, but at least they have an efficient ice machine on our floor (loved that). The room was fine but the bathroom was small, limited storage and counter space and our over the shower bath needs a refresh. Storage and hangers in the wardrobe are limited. My only gripe was the poor lighting in the room, no overhead lights in the bedroom only lamps or side lights. It was difficult to sort through luggage and other items in the room. Also the beds were great but the solid square wood surrounds were a continual problem knocking our legs on the solid wood corners. Loved the wifi, the wifi worked well. Had in room dining on one occasion and it was great. Good location and we had a continual visiting seagull on our windowsill. 👍 Read less

Overall, we really enjoyed this beautiful hotel. It's quiet and clean, has very comfy beds, and is in a beautiful location. I give it 3 stars instead of 5 because of the final bill. They made one error on the bill (that would have charged us over $100 extra if we hadn't noticed) but corrected it quickly when we pointed it out. A couple of days… Read more

They made one error on the bill (that would have charged us over $100 extra if we hadn't noticed) but corrected it quickly when we pointed it out. A couple of days later I noticed that instead of the nightly price given at the time of booking (all nights at the same price), one of the nights was a good $50 more. I've written several times to get this corrected, even offering my confirmation email showing the booked pricing, with no response. If you stay here, I recommend not doing the online checkout as we did, and instead, checkout in person at the front desk so you can review the charges right away. Read less

Went Gold this time , which allowed access to the lounge and provided breakfast, afternoon tea, canapés and desserts as well as ongoing drinks. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Big shout out to Maya who was on duty when I checked in and bank promptly blocked my card! She was very patient, understanding and allowed me to resolve next morning after some sleep! Room was overlooking the church which provided some musical accompaniments from the bells over the Easter period. Clean room, comfortable and had everything I needed. I can neither confirm or deny that I have already booked a room for a return visit same time next year! Only slight disappointment and this is just a personal thing, I had booked to stay over my birthday, which the hotel was aware of, but there was no acknowledgement of that, which I found odd as the hotel is normally very good at this things, but it did not detract from my overall stay.
