The hotel

A veritable castle in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is an impeccable symbol of indulgence and pedigree. Offering the luxury and services of a world-class hotel, all guest rooms are beautifully furnished with every attention to detail observed. Facilities include a state-of-the-art health club, accessible 24-hours a day, with indoor heated swimming pool and saunas. Pilates and Yoga classes are available at the Sitka Studios or treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering at the Absolute Spa. There’s also some prime shopping in the lobby with designers stores selling plenty to tempt you! Although you’re close to plenty of restaurants and bars in the downtown area, the Fairmont’s very own Notch8 Restaurant & Bar is the ideal place to relax and watch the world pass by. Named after a train’s top speed, achieved only by the most skilled conductors, the restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific railway. A traditional afternoon tea is also served here daily — for a special occasion, add a glass of champagne or, if the kids want to tag along, childish delights include Bubblegum Tea, fresh strawberries and cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

It wasn’t awful - far from it, and we quite enjoyed our stay but really it’s a bit stale. I get that it’s trading on tradition but you can do that in a slightly more up to date way, for instance by changing decor and server uniforms and using IT better - I mean, checking against pieces of paper at the restaurant welcome desk? Really? Read less

Things I loved at the hotel: beautiful architecture, proximity to shops and restaurants, and bike rental. Things I didn't love: mattress was not in good shape. There were large indentations where people had slept. They really should be replaced. Very noisy - frequent emergency vehicles and the windows don't seem well insulated

After 3 weeks of travelling, er booked this hotel for our final couple of days in Vancouver - the luxurious and service was just what we needed! We arrived just before rooms were released but the team stored our luggage and then transferred it to the room for us which allowed us to get straight out into the city, the concierge team were excellent - wonderful advice and always friendly. The room was large and well equipped; the bed linens were sumptuous. The only disappointment was that when we returned from a full day of sightseeing, our room had not been serviced. When we wanted to change for dinner, this was frustrating and despite a chat with the concierge (who was very apologetic and promised it would be sorted immediately) the room had still not been addressed by the time we went for dinner an hour later. Whilst it was sorted when we had returned that evening, they had not topped up our espresso pods and tea - so another trip to concierge. Very disappointing and not what I expect from Fairmont or a 5* hotel. The pool was large and a welcome addition but the water was very murky. We had read about the hotel having a sky bar, but no sign of this when we arrived - this is one of the reasons we had booked the hotel. There is so much to do in Vancouver and this hotel is perfectly situated to walk to most things, the sky train station is two streets away with easy access cross to the airport and plentiful local busses at the door if you do need a little assistance! Highly recommend Earls test kitchen for dinner a few doors away and heading to the English Bay for dinner to watch the sunset. Amazing Read less

The staff and experience was exceptional. Highly recommend the ninth floor q the extra included meals and the Rocky Mpuntain train ride as well as the Lynn canyon suspension bridge which is free and renting an Emile on the waterways off of Georgia. Visit the totum poles and then the Port of Vancouver to see the sea planes and Olympic rings
