“Family Vacation”

Hotel is beautiful. I was not impressed with the service. It has beautiful restaurants and great food, however, everything is very $$. It is very hard to find chairs on the beach and by the pools. They want you to pay for everything, including decent chairs by the pools. The water park was nice. We visited once and we will not be coming back!

Our stay at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar was a huge disappointment. To start, the rooms are far from inexpensive. While the food across the resort is decent, it is extremely overpriced, so be prepared to pay significantly on top of the already high room rates. The biggest issue, however, was the service. The best way to describe it is that guests feel like an inconvenience to the staff rather than welcomed. This was consistent throughout our stay and really detracted from what could otherwise be a great resort. It’s particularly frustrating because the property itself is beautiful. The beach, water, pools, and water park are all excellent and make the resort visually impressive. Unfortunately, the quality of service simply does not match the setting or the price. What ultimately ensured we will never return was how the resort handled a serious incident during our stay. Halfway through the trip, while my wife was in the bathroom, the entire bathroom shower panel suddenly shattered and cut her hand. Thankfully the injury was minor, but it could have been much worse — especially considering we were traveling with our four children. The incident occurred at night, and it took nearly an hour for maintenance to arrive and clean up the broken glass. When we initially asked to be moved, the assistant manager told us the hotel was “sold out” and that they might not be able to relocate us. We had booked two rooms next to each other for our family, and she suggested we might have to be split up. The following day they were eventually able to move us, but the process was extremely poorly handled. We were given no help moving our belongings, and only one of the replacement rooms was ready. Staff assured us the second room would be cleaned that morning. When we returned around 4 PM, the room still had not been cleaned. After multiple calls throughout the evening, it was finally ready around 9 PM — meaning our kids had another late night waiting just to have beds to sleep in. On top of this, we were drying bathing suits in the bath tub and they got filled with shards of glass. They gave us a $400 credit for Aqua which seemed generous to replace our 13 swimsuits that were damaged. However, each bathing suit cost around $100 so it only replaced 4 kid suits. Even more concerning was the lack of follow-up from management. When I later asked if the hotel planned to investigate what caused the glass shower to shatter, there was essentially no response. I reached out to Hyatt Global Care and they connected me back with hotel and they only offered a $800 credit which I still have not received. This is a FAR CRY from what I deserve as retribution for this. Given the seriousness of the incident and how disruptive it was to several days of our trip, I was genuinely shocked that the hotel did not offer any meaningful resolution or compensation for our stay. Because of both the poor service and the way this safety issue was handled, we will not be returning.

Great time at Baha Mar. I travelled with 3 kids and my husband. Considering it was the start of college spring break it wasn't too crowded. The beach and water are lovely. The pools were a ton of fun for my kids as well as the water park. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.
