The Royal at Atlantis

Nassau, Bahamas

Star rating

The hotel

Throwing you into the full Atlantis experience, The Royal is as legendary as the myths that inspired and infuse them. The architecture, the artwork, the adventures — each have a cheeky nod to the Lost City of Atlantis, but the well-dressed rooms and suites are a little less kitsch, coming with French or full balconies and views over the terraces, water, or harbour. Their spot on Atlantis Paradise Island puts you right by Atlantis Casino and at the heart of the world’s largest outdoor ‘marine habitat’ — with 14 lagoons and more than 50,000 aquatic residents, from sharks to barracuda. The island’s other fabled fun’s yours for the taking too, whether its experiencing rides or slides at the 141-acre Aquaventure waterscape; snorkelling the ‘ruins’ at Atlantis; or kicking back at one of its 21 restaurants and 19 bars.

Although the water parks are good, I would not come back here. All this “YouTube celebrities” that stay here and show how great the slides are are probably getting paid to do that. Where do I even start? 1.)We had such a difficult time even finding any tubes for the slides as did everyone around us. People were fighting for tubes!! No one that works at the pools seemed to care and they were all a bunch of young teenagers that would much rather be chatting than helping customers. Terrible customer service at all the pool and water park facilities. 2.) room service takes about 2 hours so be prepared to wait that long if you order any. Also be prepared to pay astronomical amounts for the food. Two sample boxes or cereal cost us $12. Our room service bill was about $250 due to the VAT and automatic gratuity they include and we only ordered 4 dishes. 3.) the VAT and automatic gratuity makes it very expensive to stay here. Also, the auto gratuity is the reason the people that work here don’t care about customer service because they’re already getting their tip. We didn’t witness many happy people working there and they seemed like they would rather be anywhere else. 4.) the only great service we received was by the staff at Nobu restaurant and the housekeeping staff. They were attentive and kind. Read less

I have been vacationing at Atlantis for 25 years and this is my worst experience yet. If you’re not staying at the reef or cove don’t even bother coming. The ROYAL pools are disgusting and run down, rooms (although recently renovated) are STILL subpar and unexpected of a “5 star” resort. I’m tired of getting questioned every time I’m walking by hotel staff asking where I’m going and where I’m staying. Many parts of this resort are exclusive to cove and reef members only, and it leaves other guests feeling like peasants. I strongly regret booking the royal. Every single pool is catered to children and is run down. The pool chairs are terrible and falling apart and the royal beach is reminiscent of a public beach you can attend at your local hometown. Nothing is special about this place anymore. Dealers at the casino are rude and the cocktail ladies IGNORE you even after spending lots of money at the casino. Stay at Bahamar instead. Much more friendly staff and casino cocktails come ASAP as well as friendlier staff and access to all parts of the resort. Read less

I recently stayed at this hotel and spent almost $10,000 for two rooms (1 bedroom grand suite, 1 double). Unfortunately, I was disappointed in what I got vs. what I paid for. I had booked the 1 bedroom grand suite which from the pictures was white and remodeled and looked luxurious. We purposely booked this room for 4 people for our family and instead got an old, old dated (and definitely not renovated) one bedroom with NO double sofa pullout as stated in the website. I called the front desk to address the issue, and the only solution they offered was a rollaway bed, which was brought up without any blankets. When I mentioned the room didn't look like the pictures, she basically said that "this is the room category I booked". The room also had dirty dishes laying out when we checked in. Then after staying the old unrenovated room, the lack of maintenance on this room became more obvious. One bathroom had a broken toilet, there was a damaged fridge door, and a bathroom lock that didn’t work. The Aquaventure park was fun for the kids, but because cruise ships are there daily, mass inflow of people are coming daily so lines are long, finding a lounge chair is difficult unless you're up at 8AM to secure a seat. The wait staff barely come by. The beach itself was beautiful, but with the hotel warnings about not using the jet skis because of safety issues, and then having the jet ski companies try to sell us an excursion, the experience made us feel anxious and uncomfortable. Overall the food quality and prices were better than expected. In the end, we were expecting a somewhat luxurious experience for what we paid but didn't get close. The photos were misleading, the facilities were outdated, and the customer service was non-existent. Read less
