The Royal at Atlantis

Nassau, Bahamas

Star rating

The hotel

Throwing you into the full Atlantis experience, The Royal is as legendary as the myths that inspired and infuse them. The architecture, the artwork, the adventures — each have a cheeky nod to the Lost City of Atlantis, but the well-dressed rooms and suites are a little less kitsch, coming with French or full balconies and views over the terraces, water, or harbour. Their spot on Atlantis Paradise Island puts you right by Atlantis Casino and at the heart of the world’s largest outdoor ‘marine habitat’ — with 14 lagoons and more than 50,000 aquatic residents, from sharks to barracuda. The island’s other fabled fun’s yours for the taking too, whether its experiencing rides or slides at the 141-acre Aquaventure waterscape; snorkelling the ‘ruins’ at Atlantis; or kicking back at one of its 21 restaurants and 19 bars.

We recently stayed at Atlantis Bahamas and, unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The overall atmosphere from the staff was unwelcoming—many employees acted as though we were an inconvenience rather than guests. There were excessive expectations for tipping at every turn, even after already tipping generously. It became frustrating and felt more like a pressure than hospitality. To make matters worse, we witnessed a bartender using his bare hand—up to the wrist—to grab olives and place them in the bar container. No gloves, no utensils. Absolutely unacceptable from a hygiene standpoint. Between the steep prices, poor service, and unsanitary practices, we left feeling like we would’ve had a better experience (and saved quite a bit of money) by vacationing in Florida instead. The views are amazing. But I would not go to this resort again. Needs some better upkeep. Elevators definitely needed work.. one trapped guests for a couple hours while were there.

During my business trip at Atlantis, I was carrying 5 heavy bags uphill towards the Coral entrance, under the hot sun. Jeff an employee of the resort saw me struggling and walked fast towards me not only help me, but he took all the 5 bags and walked all the bag to the Royal tower where I was staying. Jeff’s attentiveness, demeanor and kindness was above and beyond what I believe his duties are. Atlantis management should be very proud of Jeff, for such a caring and outstanding representative of the resort. Read less

This is our second year in a row going to the Bahamas and staying at Atlantis. Last year we stayed at The Reef at Atlantis and this year we stayed at The Royal. While both hotels were amazing, we far preferred The Royal due to its proximity to everything (our group has 3 active kids). Everyone was extremely friendly and we were even upgraded at check in to an AMAZING suite. Unfortunately, on our first full day of vacation, my husband hurt him self in a random (no one's fault) freak accident. The response from the hotel staff, in particular Dremaine (the manger) was top notch! Dremaine continued to check in with my husband daily, even stopping by to ensure we didn't need anything. To say that his care and concern went above and beyond is an understatement!! We will definitely go back! Read less
