Butterfly Beach Hotel

Barbados, Caribbean

Star rating

The hotel

One of the hallmarks of any holiday in Barbados is a night at Oistins’ famous Fish Fry – and you are just a stroll from all the action (and a short drive from lively St Lawrence Gap for other nights out). Enjoy direct access to two fabulous white powder beaches laid out either side by of this seafront hotel. The iridescent blue waters of the Caribbean may be tempting, but you can also take a dip in the freshwater swimming pools – or head up to the raised circular patio for a soak in its trio of waterfront whirlpools or relax on the ample sunning areas with loungers and umbrellas. The sea views steal the show at The Reef Bar & Grill too, with its new seaside deck providing the perfect backdrop for Caribbean dishes, and for its weekly rum punch parties and barbecues accompanied by steel pan sounds. You can see why the Butterfly Beach Hotel is a great value for money resort in Barbados and a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award winner.

Overall we would recommend Butterfly Beach Hotel. Good points are: value for money, location on the beach, great breakfast selection, lovely long pool area, great food in the restaurant (it's quite expensive - but then Barbados is expensive for food generally) and it's a short walk to Oistins, as well as not far from Lawrence Gap and Bridgetown.… Read more
Overall we would recommend Butterfly Beach Hotel. Good points are: value for money, location on the beach, great breakfast selection, lovely long pool area, great food in the restaurant (it's quite expensive - but then Barbados is expensive for food generally) and it's a short walk to Oistins, as well as not far from Lawrence Gap and Bridgetown. Also, worthy of note - the management is responsive. However, not everyone on the team is polite and friendly! Week 1 we were shocked at how poorly we were treated. Especially as so many before had said how lovely the staff was. Then we saw the review from someone who had just stayed - saying the front of house team were not polite - and speaking to another guest who had stayed before, she shared the same complaint. However, we did see a marked improvement in week 2 - one lady in the restaurant compeltely disappeared - thank goodness! As did a man who had been super rude on reception... The team that were left changed too - they started to smile more... and acted less like they were doing us a favour by being there. We noticed a massive difference in the mood of the team at the second welcome drinks (Mondays) to the one we had been at a week earlier. Also, when we needed to change rooms the Manager was understanding and made it happen straight away. We were very grateful for this. What I would say though is, because some of the team had been so bad on week 1, week 2 seemed SO much better - but there is definitely still room for improvement! They could be much more helpful - offering tips where to visit and just generally having a sunny demeanour to match the surroundings. Even after the changes at the end of week 1, one of the housekeepers had a go at my husband because we hadn't left our room yet to clean it - she really went for it! And another lady on reception just stared at us blankly when we asked a simple question... However, I have to give credit to another housekeeper - her name is Nicole - she was super lovely... as was Lynette (front of house) and the lady with the glasses on reception (can't remember her name) - it just makes such a difference to your day (and your holiday) when you are spoken to nicely! :) All in all we would return. If we did, we would book a ground floor room in front of the long pool - it's a lovely quiet spot. Couple of other things to mention: there should be a basic food menu available on the evenings where there are 'platters' - the platters are lovely, but be helpful to have some basics to choose from as well - especially for kids. Maps for guests would also be an added bonus and the live music is far too loud - you can't hear to be able to speak to each other, so we avoided on the other nights they were on - which is a shame, because the musicians themselves were really talented. And finally, please do not worry about the seaweed or the weather forecasts. The former - there was a bit by the hotel on day 1 and 2, but all along the west coast the beaches were perfect - absolutely glorious! And the weather showed rain every day and little sun - there was hardly any rain and gorgeous sunshine all the time. It really is a lovely spot and a beautiful island :) Read less

Been coming to Barbados for 38 years, and stayed at the Butterfly Beach about 10 times. It’s a home from home for us, and absolutely love it. This is our 5th trip back to Butterfly Beach Hotel travelling with 2 adults and 3 children (plus grandparents in their own room). The location on the beach itself is wonderful with beach access from both sides of the property. The Reef restaurant offers a wide variety of food options: breakfast, the usual lunch staples and evening menus that change daily - all very reasonably priced. Entertainment is on offer most evenings and happy hours twice a day. The rum punch is excellent! What really makes this place though are the wonderful people who work here. Friendly and caring, the Bajan welcome is lovely. John in particular, has gone out of his way to make sure our younger 2 children are having as much fun as mum and dad. All staff, from front desk to housekeeping are a true asset to this family friendly hotel. We booked the Penthouse apartment this time around, with a large living and dining area, a full kitchen and 2 very large en-suite bedrooms. The beds are very large and extremely comfortable. The wrap-around terrace for our apartment is enormous, with sun-beds for 6 and ample room to dine outside to admire the outstanding view. Some previous reviews note that there are not many other dining options nearby. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for. We’ve used the handy ZRs in the past (cheap, convenient and SO much fun!) to reach nearby areas such as Rockley (Accra) or a little further to Carlisle Bay. Oistins is on your doorstep - 10 minute stroll, with a well stocked supermarket if you need it. We’ve hired a car over the last few times to explore the island. Definitely worth the effort to see beyond the gorgeous beaches. Visiting Butterfly Beach is a no brainer. See you Summer 2026 - we’ve already booked! Read less
