We just returned from our 8 day trip to Grenada. I'll start this review with all of the positive, and then move on to areas for improvement. We stayed in the Diamond Club and the rooms were amazing. Some of them have incredible patios and full balconies, they are well appointed, fully stocked mini bars, and nice size rooms with all the amenities you will need. They even gave us a beach bag. The real star of the show at this property is the beach. There is a nice long stretch that goes from the far end of the Diamond Club around to the small cove beach where you can get kayaks and snorkle equipment. There are great lounge chairs, cabanas, anything you need for the beach, and the water is amazing. Even on a few days where there were waves, we swam, saw fish, and found the water and beach to be perfect. They offer food and drink service on the beach (shout out to Joshim and Zelid who always served with a smile), but the bars are never far away. While we did not personally spend any time in the pool, our family with a small baby did, and everyone poolside seemed to be very happy. The best drinks on property were made poolside - the others all tasted like water.
As Diamond Club guests, were were offered a series of special extras. Butler service is one of those, and shout out to Ted and Milano who did their best to help us with dinner reservations and more. Having said that, the butler service, like all of the service here was inconsistent. Our second butler was really nice, but twice confirmed dinner reservations for us that were then non-existent. We were also told we had nightly turn-down service, which I don't really care that much about. That is a good thing, because in 8 nights, it was only done once. We were also "given" $600 of on-property credits to spend, but then given a detailed list of ways to spend it - basically making it impossible to spend your credits unless you spend more money. For example, if a Spa treatment is $100, you can spend one of your 6 allocated $25 credits at a time - not 4 of them to cover the treatment. So, we never used these.
Food - the food in this all-inclusive, and the inconsistency in all of the service, is the area for VAST improvement. Taj, the Indian Restaurant has the best food and service by far. In the Gourmet Marche (the main buffet, self-service), you can wait 10 minutes for a glass of water. The food is very average here, and even though the calendar showed that there were themed food nights, it all seemed like the same stuff every day and night. This goes for breakfast and lunch. The French and Italian restaurant again, were very average. Nibbles, the small restaurant on the Diamond Club beach seemed consistently overwhelmed. One day they wee running a 2 hour delay for food, one day they ad 3 items only on the menu, one day they set up a pop-up burger table on the beach, and that was great for overflow, if you eat burgers.
Service - inconsistent. Monique and Ayisha at check-in were very nice, but there were busy days when people waited until 5pm to get a room. Housekeeping was inconsistent. One day our room was never made up until 6pm (the same, and only time we got turn down service), other days it was done at a different time. The staff is very friendly, but that doesn't always make up for slow, inconsistent, or inefficient. My general take is that the property was not staffed properly for the Holidays (there were a lot of guests), and their logistics management needs some work.
Final suggestions for future travelers - take your own mosquito spray and suntan lotion, because on property these cost $23-40 a pop. If you love a great beach, this is your kind of resort, just avoid high season, and do not expect the kind of service you would typically get in a 5-star hotel.
