This is rated as 5 star! I would be careful.about accepting this as 5 star as the hotel is a big let down now. It's showing signs of age and also it's a very large hotel and seems to be struggling to cater to the masses. Let's start with the positives: The staff are amazing, you can't really fault them, the service they provide is above and beyond. Food is awesome and there's plenty of choice. Unfortunately that's about where it ends. Negatives: Room was ok but far from 5 star, tiny bathroom and showing signs of age. The shower head is past its sell by date, the shampoo and conditioner dispenser pumps refused to work. Reported 4 times and nothing was ever done about it. Room service food was always delivered cold. Given a buzzer to press to collect the dishes when finished but never collected until the morning meaning the animals got to the leftovers outside your room and scattered everything all over the corridor. Balcony area was dirty from paint that was falling off the outside, ladders left outside the balcony area and also discarded towels from others rooms. Pool tiles had come away leaving sharp edges everywhere which I unfortunately cut my knee (minor but still not expected from a 5 star). Very noisy at the pools from the entertainment system and lots of drunk Americans. Not a place to go relax. Thankfully had access to Nizuc which was on a different level and much nicer and quieter. Sorry Palace Resorts but SunRise needs a massive overhaul. If you want peace and quiet and 5 star treatment, book Nizuc or another Palace Resort. Read less

We celebrated my big birthday at Nizuc in May with 6 adults and 2 toddlers. We had a wonderful time. The rooms were lovely with nice views, all of the staff were so friendly and worked very hard to keep the place looking immaculate too. We particularly enjoyed the pool days at Nizuc with the kids, the playrooms at Sunrise and Nizuc and lovely food and drinks. Each day, no matter whether we were early or late arriving at the pool, we always were able to find 6 sunbeds together in good locations - there was no reserving of sunbeds which the residents seemed to adhere to. Downside was the beach which was covered with seaweed and the sea was murky and not at all inviting but obviously this is through no fault of the resort. We were disappointed with the Mexican restaurant at Nizuc which was a shame as we had high expectations. We ordered starters and main meals and it all was served at the same time. The waiter then tried to take away my starter while I was still eating it! The resort credits are not really worth spending as you still have to pay 16% tax so you have to spend money to use the credits. The gifts are also overpriced. We used Ubers to get from the airport which were less that half of what the resort cabs were charging. We didn't feel the need to pay the additional cost to use The Grand - there's plenty to see and do at Sunrise and Nizuc. Despite a couple of minor issues, we would come back again as it was just what we needed to entertain everyone in the group and felt that it offered good value for money. Read less

The start of summer for us always starts with a family trip before the littles go to stay with a grandparent for the summer. They love it at Moon Palace Sunrise, so we went back this year. We enjoy all of the palace elite stays we have had

We had heard that the moon palace was great from many friends… Didn’t know the difference between the Grand, the Sunrise and Nizcu. We ended up booking the sunrise, family suite and upon arrival nothing was ready, which was fine because we got there early. We had a lovely day at the pool. The food was fantastic and service was great. We ended up checking into our room and we were on the first floor and it was a dungeon… very dark no view of anything and loud. We went out to dinner at the Italian restaurant. It was absolutely delicious, had gelato and everything was wonderful!! We went back to our room that night only to hear my daughter screaming on the top of her lungs because she found a centipede 6 inches long!! My husband grabbed it annd threw it i. The trash but she was traumatized and now won’t go to the bathroom alone. A couple hours later my husband went to the same bathroom and there was a cockroach. There was blood on our duvet that look like someone had gotten scratched and overall about 10 mosquitoes flying around trying to sting us all night long. We are in a very humid climate so I understand the mosquitoes, but the cockroaches and the centipede are an absolutely not in my book on vacation. My husband and I had a game plan the next morning and we would try to move rooms or we would just take the cancel and move to a completely different property. I will say the front desk was accommodating and moved us to a second floor in the same building. The room seemed nicer so far, but overall the experience has been less than stellar. We did the sales pitch at the Grand and they told us it was 90 minutes. It went on longer than an hour than expected, and they wouldn’t take no for an answer. Brought in a closer and it didn’t work out for them and I ended up leaving. I will say our second room at the sunrise is much better than the first and we have high hopes for the next four days. We will be spending most of our time away from the resort on excursions and a day pass to the Grand that we got an exchange for our time for the sales pitch. Will post a comment after our final. Stay here in four days. Read less
