Oleo Cancun Playa

Cancun, Mexico

Star rating

The hotel

The sculptural ice-white architecture and matching monochrome interiors of Óleo Cancún Playa give it a calmness that’s a far cry from the buzz and colour of your setting — right at the start of the famously vibrant Cancún Hotel Zone. The dedication to ‘white’ is only really interrupted by flashes of blue — homage to the sea and surf just steps from the hotel. Overlooking the beach, the infinity pool adds a touch more turquoise, with the pool bar’s tropical-inspired cocktails adding their own shots of colour. You’ve got spa treatments, complimentary WiFi, an art workshop, and restaurant menus that take you from Japan to Mexico and Peru, with stops on the way for comfort food, international favourites, and bakery treats.

I don’t know where to start, we had such an incredible time at Oleo! Most importantly, the staff go above and beyond to ensure you have the best time! The check in staff are great and efficient, we had a nice mimosa on arrival. The porter Isaac had the tough job of taking our luggage up to the 9th floor where he had to take it up a flight of stairs as the 9th floor is split. He made us feel so welcome and showed us around our beautiful room with a balcony, facing the lagoon and also views of the sea to the side. We booked the King 180 room and we were not disappointed! The fridge is topped up daily with water, soft drinks and beers. There is also a coffee maker in the room. The bed is the comfiest bed I’ve slept on! I’m very fussy when it comes to pillows and can never find comfortable ones when on holiday but I had absolutely no trouble here! The rooms are cleaned to such a high standard! Thank you! The staff in Azul (the buffet restaurant) are exceptional, they keep the buffet well stocked and ensure your drinks are never empty. Nothing is too much trouble for them! Special thank you to Yiselli and Ham who were so attentive, there are also many others that went above and beyond! We even got a packed lunch to take with us on the last day which is so thoughtful! Almar is the Mediterranean restaurant there and the food is exceptional, along with the service! Roger looked after us the two times we went and he was so lovely! The beach is beautiful, the pool is kept so clean and the staff are always on hand. We booked two excursions through the tour company in tower two who were very helpful and informative. The room service is so efficient and delicious! We came for my birthday and on the day they left me a lovely cake and a birthday message. On the day of arrival we also had a bottle of bubbly and a welcome dessert waiting for us. We will definitely stay here again when we find ourselves in Mexico 🩵 Read less

The waiters on the pool and supervisor went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. This would be the greatest reason why I would come back to this resort. Special thanks to Supervisor Eréndira, Chef Saul, waiters Charly, Sheila, Abad, Rodríguez, bartenders Roberto, Fer and Gerry. Read less

It was the worst experience we've had out of all the hotels we've stayed at. The condition of the rooms - horrible. The service - zero. Upon check-in, no one explained anything to us or gave us a tour of the hotel. To order a cocktail, there was a line. One time, we ordered 2 beers, but the bartender only poured 1 and when we told him we had asked for 2, we were shouted at by the bartender. If you don't give tips, you'll wait forever. There are not enough sun loungers either by the pool or on the beach .There are lines everywhere. To have breakfast, you had to stand in line for at least 15-20 minutes to get a table. The restaurant is critically small for the number of people staying there. Getting coffee in the morning at the coffee shop is almost impossible; again, you have to stand in a huge line. In our building, one elevator was out of order, so you had to wait just to get to your dirty and old room. But halfway through our stay, we even refused to use the other elevator because in the neighboring building, the elevator actually fell from the 4th floor with people inside. When we were checking out, I wanted so much that at least someone would ask us how was out staying there and I could share my impressions, but of course no one asked, they just cut off the bracelets and that was it. The only thing that was ok- it is Hakka restaurant and again -you have to wait in the huge line to get a table for the dinner. Read less
