Just not a good experience overall. Quality and food choices need overhauling.I can’t even list all of the issues I seen here. Go elsewhere.

We stayed here for one week over July 4th. Our group had four adults and two 8-year-old girls. Both families had swim-up rooms in the Preferred Club. I was very nervous after reading the many negative reviews, but our trip was better than expected. The Good - All the positive comments regarding staff are right on the money. The staff was overall amazing, both in the preferred club and within the other parts of the hotel. Amado in the preferred club bar and Jesus at the preferred club pool were both wonderful. But all the staff at the hotel exceeded expectations and were helpful, kind and prompt. The staff really made the trip special. - Preferred club elevated our experience. I would not have enjoyed the trip as much without preferred club. The preferred club restaurant was a great additional option with a very good breakfast and lunch. Dinner was also good, but the larger resort has other similar options at dinner. I prefer a quiet pool experience and the preferred pool, while busy, did not have games or overly loud music. Jesus and the other pool attendants will help in securing chairs which I appreciated. Waitstaff came by frequently for drink orders. I also found the mixed drinks to be of superior quality in the preferred pool and club. The pool area was active, with kids and swimmers etc. But no games or group activities. I dislike those but did notice other preferred guests moving between pools so they could enjoy the larger resort pool. - I found the food quality to exceed the reviews. We did not attend any of the special group dinners but did visit all the restaurants. The Mexican restaurant (El Patio) the preferred restaurant (Oceana) and the grill restaurant (Seaside Grill) were our favorites. All were very good. Italian was just ok and the Asian restaurant was fine. The buffet was better for breakfast than lunch. Coco Cafe was great for coffee drinks in the morning. We ate at both El Patio and Seaside Grill twice. - Our kids loved the water slide. They spent hours going down the slide which was manned by a lifeguard during all opening hours. - The surrounding area is very nice. We had fun walking around the marina. There are some good-looking restaurants nearby if you want to eat off property. The resort is also close for excursions related to Xcaret etc. The Bad (within the hotel's control) - the lunch buffet was fairly repetitive. I found it strange there was rarely any beans available within the taco section. Each day there were taco fixings out with various meats but no beans. - we prefer making reservations for dinner. With young kids waiting can be difficult. Luckily, we are early eaters. We found if you arrived at restaurants by 6:30, 6:45 you could easily be seated. Anything after that you will likely have a wait. Of course, some people prefer the opposite so the resort can't necessarily win here but that's my two cents. The Bad (out of the hotel's control) - Seaweed is obviously a big problem everywhere. While the hotel did their best, the lagoon area was not swimmable. At the beginning of our week the smell was overpowering. It was hard for me to be out near the beach the smell was so bad. Thankfully the preferred pool was less impacted. By the end of the week this was all better. While the hotel did their best, it was very problematic. - While the hotel is on the beach, you don't really have access to the beach. I missed swimming in the ocean more than I anticipated. In addition, you can't really hear ocean waves until you walk past the Portofino restaurant to the far edge of the resort. Our girls prefer the pool, but all the adults really missed swimming in the ocean. This is the primary reason we would not return to this resort. If you are solidly a pool person, I could see returning in the preferred section, but we will not. This is not the resort's fault obviously, but I don't think the hotel website is very clear. At this point no one would swim or get in the lagoon given the sargassum issue. If swimming in the ocean and bobbing in the waves is a must, you can't stay here. You will be disappointed. Overall, I had a better time than I was expecting. The staff make the resort special, I hope the owners continue to focus on the customer experience and encourage the level of service we received. Food was good, pool was nice, rooms were fine. But the lack of true ocean access means we will not return. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Fabulous walking tour of the Marina

Sebastian was fabulous! I highly suggest the walking tour. We saw Marina life, had the opportunity to shop and went out to see the beach. This was the perfect amount of time and I would not have been able to see a true Cancun habitat! 10/10

I will not be coming back to the resort after several issues at the resort. Did not like that for the first 2 days the place smelled like sewer issues
