Resort Fees

Guests staying in the Mexican state Quintana Roo are required to pay a travel tax of $11 per adult (over 15 years old), subject to change. We had a great time as usual. This was our 16th year at this resort. The employees are the best here. Carlos greeted us as we arrived. Daniel served us great drinks along with Big Mac, Jorge and Patricio. Romi at the check in desk is the sweetest. I took an exercise class with Ivan which was very good. Jazmin gave me 2 wonderful massages on the beach. Resort is very clean. We only heard one loud evening at 3am coming down the hallway. I think it is the perfect atmosphere for fun, The room we had was an ocean view which is a favorite. The location is perfect for shopping at exploring. A great value considering everything. Our favorite foods are at the Italian restaurant. 2nd favorite is the asian dinner. I can't wait until next year!

“Terrific stay with friends”

Stayed a week from the 8th to the 15th. I will do my best to break down. We went with a group of 10 adults. Checkin Slow. When we booked on air transat as a king bed, garden view. Instead we got two doubles and a concrete view of the entrance of the hotel with a terrible view where you couldn't even see the sky when you opened the patio doors. Upon request, the lady on Sunday night told us the only way we could change rooms is with a very costly upgrade (~$200-$400 a night) and there were NO OTHER options. The next morning we went back to the front desk and spoke with a young man about our situation. He did not try to upsell us, rather offered us an ocean room for a $475 fee which was reasonable as we did book garden view. TIP 1 (also complaint): Do not try to upsell your way to guests. The lady on Sunday night could have simply told us to check in the next morning, but instead she insisted the only way we could change rooms was to pay WAY more money. I don't think this was appropriate and again didn't start our vacation off like we had hoped. She left a sour taste in our mouth. Tip 2: Get rid of this god awful room. I am sure you know the one we are talking about. Or offer it at a much reduced rate (concrete view). We were told by other guests they had the EXACT SAME room and also had to move out the next day. This makes your resort look 2 star quite frankly. Moving on..... After we switched to 2376 the room was amazing and everything we wanted (again THANK YOU to the gentlemen working Monday morning, and echoing our disappointment to the lady that worked Sunday night). Room was VERY clean, beautiful, and the housekeeper amazing each day. Thank you! Restaurants were terrific- and like other reviews the service was outstanding. Rosa, thank you for your amazing food and smile at the downstairs breakfast buffet. Tip: 1 night the food was not cooked quite through and some got diarrhea from evening cooks on the grill. We thought this would not be an issue in your resort, but it was. Just a reminder to fully cook all the time. Taco bar outside: awesome. love how the one side rotates through. Main bar. Excellent service from all of them including Fernando who was recognized by the regulars. Well done crew! Every night Tip/recommendation: This really is a family friendly resort, so it is disappointing that the lights come on at 11pm. At least keep the lights dimmed until midnight and have some soft mexican music playing. Yes, we were a group of adults but surely this can be improved upon reasonably. Last call at 12am is fine, but I think you can compromise a bit. If you are a group of adults looking for a nightlife scene I would not book here unless they make at the very least some changes. I mean not all of us have kids at the resort and it doesn't have to be super loud. Not sure if we will return despite all of the positives, this should be fixed. Beaches: Amazing. Clean, bathrooms lovely! The service on the beaches was outstanding. Especially from the older man that worked it a few days (and sometimes by the pool). The older man server was so amazing he made our group so happy and did he ever work hard. This man should be made an example of what perfect service looked like. We all loved him and wish we got his name but I am sure you can identify. Great job lifeguards and all the cleaning staff. The clean resort and service plus the beach is what makes this resort stands out. Even the beach washroom was the cleanest we have ever seen in 20 years of travel. Entertainment: Needs to be better advertised, maybe a big sign at the front and an arrow pointing to the downstairs banquet hall we didn't even know existed. Candy shop: Whoever this man is, he is amazing! such a clean store, amazing service, and terrific candy and bakery items. Thank you!! Always smiling and happy! Coffee shop: Loved the staff, the drinks and never having to really wait in a line. Great job! Didn't spend time in kiddy area. Conceirge: We asked to take a taxi to the downtown market. We all heard 60 pesos round trip, but it was actually $60USD! When we got to the market the taxi demanded $30 USD for literally a 2 minute drive (or 10 minute walk). BRUTAL. We ended up walking home. Tip: Before you get in a taxi confirm the TOTAL price USD. To the people working in the front arranging a taxi, be clearer in the cost as we all heard pesos, but you insisted you said dollars. I hope there isn't a side deal going on between them and the taxi guy....... that wouldn't be good. Overall we LOVED the beach so much and thank sunscape for the wonderful week (minus a few items/suggestions above). I just don't know if we can return as a group of ten if there aren't at least some changes to accommodate a bit better of a night at the bar up until midnight even (as suggested above). That and getting rid of the possibility of having that awful room again are the only 2 things that would hold us back from rebooking. Good luck, will check the reviews to see if things change and if so you will see us all back.
