TRS Yucatán Review – July 2026
We visited TRS Yucatán in July 2026 for our first stay at this TRS resort and our first trip to Mexico. Prior to this vacation, we had traveled to the Dominican Republic seven times, with our five most recent stays at TRS Cap Cana (our favorite, now unfortunately closed) and TRS Turquesa. Those experiences gave us a solid basis for comparison.
TRS Yucatán is nestled within lush tropical vegetation, creating a peaceful, jungle-like atmosphere. The resort is connected to several Grand Palladium properties, all of which are accessible to TRS guests. As an adults-only resort, TRS offers a quiet, relaxing environment while still providing access to the extensive amenities of the larger Palladium complex.
We stayed in a room with a private pool, which initially seemed like the perfect choice since we typically enjoy late-night swimming after the main pools close. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes were relentless in the evenings—a natural issue that is certainly not the resort's fault. If we return, we'd likely choose an ocean-view room instead.
One of our favorite aspects of the resort was the incredible wildlife. Throughout our stay we saw countless iguanas, coatimundis, and agoutis. We never managed to spot the famous "mystery monkey," but we did catch a brief glimpse of a snake.
Overall, we had a relaxing vacation filled with memorable experiences. I'll mention a few opportunities for improvement later in this review, but they're offered as constructive feedback and should not overshadow what was otherwise an great stay. I'll also include several tips that may be helpful for future guests.
Pools & Beach
TRS guests have access to multiple pools and restaurants throughout the Palladium complex. Our favorite was the adults-only Infinity Pool. The service there was exceptional, and having two pool bars made it especially convenient.
One thing to note is that the Infinity Pool offers very little natural shade, so be prepared for extended sun exposure. On the positive side, it was the only pool we found that stayed cool and refreshing throughout the day while offering beautiful ocean views. We tried three other pools during our late-July visit, but they were all quite warm—more like bathwater than a refreshing escape.
Unfortunately, we were unable to fully enjoy either the beach or the saltwater pool due to significant sargassum accumulation. This was clearly a natural event beyond the resort's control, and Mother Nature ultimately has the final say.
Dining
The buffets offered a good variety of options, and while some restaurants appealed to us more than others, much of that came down to personal preference.
Our favorites were:
• Sumptuori (Hibachi)
• Bamboo (Asian cuisine)
• El Gaucho (Steakhouse)
Helios deserves special recognition for both breakfast and lunch. Their made-to-order omelets and burgers were outstanding, and they consistently served the best desserts we had anywhere on the property.
As with virtually every all-inclusive resort we've visited, some menu items were great while others simply weren't to our taste. Once we discovered our favorites, we never had trouble finding good meals.
We also appreciated being able to get ice cream throughout the resort. The coconut cone quickly became my personal favorite.
The food served at the Infinity Pool grill was good, although the menu became somewhat repetitive compared to other TRS resorts we've visited. However, Helios is right there, and you can't go wrong if the grill doesn't have what you want!
Room service was somewhat inconsistent. The app indicates that orders will be confirmed after being placed, but we typically only received confirmation after contacting our butler and well after our meal had already been delivered and finished. The time estimates provided by the app are not very accurate. The food was good.
Exceptional Staff
The staff played a tremendous role in making our stay memorable, and several individuals deserve special recognition.
Our butlers—Francisco, Ramon, Lisandra, and George—provided outstanding service throughout our stay. Communication through WhatsApp was excellent, and every request, from restaurant reservations to room preferences, was handled promptly and professionally.
Guadalupe ("Lupe") at Helios was, without question, the best server we've ever had—whether on vacation or at home. She was attentive, genuinely friendly, and clearly passionate about providing exceptional service. She even surprised my wife with a birthday dessert and arranged for the staff to sing Happy Birthday, creating a wonderful memory.
Amaia (I hope I'm spelling her name correctly) provided outstanding service at the Infinity Pool, and although I unfortunately didn't record everyone's names, many other pool staff members were equally excellent.
Miriam, the hostess at Helios, was always warm and welcoming, making each visit enjoyable. We also received exceptional service from her husband (or boyfriend) at Bamboo, though unfortunately I failed to write down his name.
Marco ("Polo!") served us at both Chic and Capricho. His enthusiasm, energy, and personality made every meal more enjoyable and created lasting memories.
Faustino at Sumptouri was our hibachi chef both visits. He’s very entertaining and great at what he does!
A special thank you goes to the team at El Gaucho for making my wife's birthday
dinner unforgettable. Our server, Juan, provided exceptional service, while our hostesses, Cindy and Alejandra, made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. Their hospitality made the evening one of the highlights of our trip.
Two cart drivers, Luciano and Martin, also deserve recognition. Both proactively asked about our dinner reservations, offered to pick us up at specific times, and even returned afterward to take us back to our room. Their friendliness and professionalism stood out.
Finally, both housekeeping and the minibar staff were exceptional. Our room was always spotless, the minibar was consistently well stocked, and the evening turndown service—with fresh towels and other thoughtful touches—was greatly appreciated.
Tips for Future Guests
• The July sun is extremely intense. Bring plenty of sunscreen unless you're prepared to pay resort prices. Rash guards, swim shirts, and wide-brimmed hats are highly recommended, especially at the Infinity Pool where shade is limited.
• Mosquitoes were very active during the evenings. If you plan to spend much time outdoors after sunset, bring insect repellent.
• Take full advantage of your butler service. Let them know your preferences early, whether it's restaurant reservations, transportation, extra blankets, specific minibar items, or anything else. They genuinely want to make your stay better.
• We always leave gratuities for housekeeping and the minibar attendant and have consistently received exceptional service.
Opportunities for Improvement
These comments are offered as constructive feedback because we genuinely enjoyed our stay and would like to see an already outstanding resort become even better.
On-Property Transportation
Transportation around the resort was the one area where we consistently experienced frustration.
Waiting approximately ten minutes for a cart in the hot sun became common. By comparison, during our stays at TRS Turquesa, our average wait was closer to three minutes.
On one occasion, a cart driver stopped at the Infinity Pool, and when we asked to be taken to our building, he sighed and replied in a rude tone, "I just came from there." When I responded that I hoped he was headed back that way, he sighed again and said, "I guess I can." We chose to get off the cart and walk instead. Unfortunately, I was so surprised by the interaction that I failed to note his name.
Our most frustrating experience occurred after dinner at Kantenah, where we waited approximately 40 minutes for transportation back to the TRS section.
During that time, we asked multiple staff members for assistance on at least five occasions. Each time we were told a cart would arrive in "about five minutes." After 40 minutes, those repeated estimates understandably became frustrating for us and 2 other couples.
At one point, a Kantenah employee suggested that any concerns should be directed to TRS because we were waiting for a TRS cart. From a guest's perspective, that distinction shouldn't matter—we were simply trying to return to our room. During our wait, we watched the same driver (who we talked to 3 of the 5 times), who was aware of the delay, leave and return several times.
There were also several unused carts parked nearby while multiple groups waited for transportation. Temporarily placing one of those carts into service could have significantly improved the guest experience and reduced the lengthy wait.
Final Thoughts
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at TRS Yucatán. The abundant wildlife, exceptional staff, good dining, and relaxing atmosphere—especially the Infinity Pool overlooking the ocean—combined to create a memorable vacation.
While there are a few operational areas that could be improved, particularly transportation, they did not outweigh the many positive aspects of our experience.
We sincerely appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and hospitality of the staff who made our visit so enjoyable.
