We recently spent a few relaxing days on Young Island, and over it was a unique and beautiful Caribbean experience — rustic, charming, and just the right kind of laid-back.
⛴️ Getting There:
Super easy! The boat transfer was less than 2 minutes — blink and you're there. Quick, smooth, and stress-free. It is about 20 minutes from the airport.
🏝️ Arrival Vibes:
We arrived on a Sunday at noon, right in the middle of a bustling Sunday lunch buffet. It was definitely hectic and crowded, so if you're looking for a calm first impression, maybe aim to arrive earlier or later on Sundays.
💥 Noise:
Heads up — there was loud music pumping from a bar/restaurant across the water until 4 AM. It was only that one night, but light sleepers, bring earplugs just in case!
🏝️ The Beach & Pool:
The beach was lovely, with clear water and always plenty of chairs available. The sand is more pebbly than powdery, so you’ll sink in a bit when entering the water, but still beautiful. The in-water bar wasn’t open during our stay (likely due to slow season), which was a bummer. BUT the lagoon-style pool surrounded by lush tropical gardens totally made up for it — absolutely gorgeous and super relaxing.
🍹 Food & Drinks:
Breakfast was included and delicious every morning. Definitely try the West Indian breakfast with fresh fish — so good! One day it included breadfruit which was a treat. Dinner was a 4-course experience that changed nightly and was very tasty, though a bit much for us (and at $70 per person, kind of pricey). The homemade bread selection is amazing. Luckily, you can order off the bar menu if you don’t want to do the 4 course meal — we had an amazing fish sandwich, and even saw the fisherman bringing in fresh catch! There are several restaurants across the water also.
🇻🇨 Service & Staff:
The bartenders were awesome — super friendly, skilled, and always ready with a smile. Shout out to James who always greeted us with some peanuts, Neil who made an awesome Martini, Josh, Ronny and Princess. Great island energy all around.
🛏️ Rooms (Cottages):
We stayed in Cottage 9 first. A rustic Caribbean-style cottage with AC, a private patio, and a heavenly outdoor shower. Loved starting our mornings with room service coffee and fresh bread on the patio. Our AC had issues that couldn’t be fixed, but the staff was great about moving us — and we ended up in cottage 6 with a private plunge pool, which was amazing. Highly recommend this cottage. Honestly, wish we had booked that from the start! The cottages up on the hill look amazing but be prepared for lots of steps.
🌟 Overall:
Young Island has a real castaway-chic vibe — not fancy, but full of character, friendly faces, and natural beauty. We left feeling refreshed and already dreaming about our next trip with that plunge pool!
🚕 Private Driver:
If you want to explore the island or need airport pickup I highly recommend Desci’s Taxi & Tours. You can find her on Instagram and Facebook.
