Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa - Handwritten Collection

Nusa Dua, Bali

The hotel

Living up to its ‘authentically Bali’ mantra, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa - Handwritten Collection feels like a reincarnated Balinese palace. Every element’s lavish, with its three exquisite tree-fringed pools, sumptuous spa, gym, and seven bars and restaurants all adding to the fantastical feel. But nothing’s quite as regal as its grounds, where tropical greenery spills over balconies, tumbles through gardens, and comes to rest on the pure white sands of its beach. The effect’s a serene setting for garden tours, coconut leaf weaving, and traditional dance classes – and for Gecko Club’s child-focused island experiences. Inside its nine hectares, a dramatic temple-like structure splits to reveal an elaborate lily pond festooned with water features; Balinese guest rooms (including Butler-served Club rooms) divulge garden, pool, or beach scenes; and the incredible bamboo web of its double-decked brasserie opens up to hypnotic Indian Ocean views.

Food is great and the breakfast buffet is incredible!! Only two gripes: 1) just not enough sun beds around the pool…having paid 5*prices I had hoped to avoid the early morning alarm to get a sun bed so I could watch my children in the pool- sadly not…there was a sign saying reserving beds wasn’t permitted and the hotel would remove if they saw this…we didn’t see any removals, and this made us less comfortable on our days around the pool. 2) simple things such as the price of water…having spent some time in the north of Bali we’re aware that Nusa Dua isn’t really Bali and is set up to provide an idyllic holiday for those seeking ultimate comfort and experience…however the inflation on basic items is excessive. Absolutely amazing hotel, superb staff, excellent food and fabulous gardens. So much wildlife around the hotel. Herons, monitor lizard and we even released some baby turtles. Highly recommended.

Although it’s a large hotel, always prompt and efficient service. Breakfast plentiful and a large variety of options. Beach and pool options. Added bonus of being able to release turtle hatchlings as part of the conservation programme . Close to Bali Collection for shopping and meals. A good base to explore more of Bali. We would definitely return. Read less

We recently visited Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food is delicious - the breakfasts have the most amazing spread, and then a choice of other restaurants for lunch/dinner meant we didn't get tired of the food. We attended two of the Balinese dance shows (which our son loves) with buffet dinner (delicious); and we were also fortunate that our trip coincided with Leatherback turtle nest hatching - and we were able to participate in releasing the baby turtles into the ocean. The staff made my birthday memorable with a chocolate cake and flowers, and a gorgeous gift. Simply love this place and can't wait to come back again. Read less

The hotel is a haven of calm and relaxation. The Balinese people are so kind and always have a smile; nothing was too much trouble. Even though the hotel was at full capacity, it never felt overwhelming. We ate at most of the restaurants and enjoyed every meal. The bedroom was quiet and very comfortable, with a huge bed, fairly traditional in its decor, with beautifully carved teak furniture and marble. The gardens are immaculate and beautiful. The beach is well groomed and had sufficient sun beds every time we went - the sun beds by the two pools did get snapped up before breakfast, though. We didn’t have time to use the gym, tennis courts or spa, as we spent two days out sightseeing. I would come back to this hotel in a heartbeat 💗 Read less
