The Laguna is a beautiful hotel in stunning surroundings. The landscaping is superb, and the choice of lagoons, including the large saltwater lagoon, is spectacular. We looked around many of the other hotels along the strip, and none of them compared. Many were larger and busier, with pools and landscaping that were nowhere near as attractive or relaxing.
The hotel also has real character. There is a hotel chicken, a flock of guinea fowl wandering around, lovely squirrels, and even a large monitor lizard made an appearance during our stay.
Our room was on the top floor, the fourth floor, and was spacious, comfortable and well air-conditioned. It had a lovely view over the saltwater lagoon to the side of the hotel. It even had a bidet toilet, which was a new one for us, and was great.
The beach was clean, calm and swimmable, with a surf school nearby. One of our favourite ways to end the evening was sitting in chairs on the beach, sipping cocktails or drinking beer. It was sublime.
The Laguna staff are simply amazing and such an asset to the hotel. They genuinely seem happy to see every guest and cannot do enough for you. A big shout-out to Sonia, who worked at Dreams Studio and was so lovely to talk to, and to Sukas at breakfast, who worked incredibly hard. In fact, everyone worked brilliantly, and the teamwork across the hotel was superb.
The food in the hotel is excellent. I have never enjoyed a more expansive breakfast anywhere else in the world. The choice was incredible, and everything was freshly cooked, with international, Indian, Balinese and Chinese options, as well as amazing pastries.
We tried the evening menu in the Banyubiru restaurant once, although in hindsight we should have gone more often, and this was equally excellent. There are several bars across the resort, including Kulkul Beach House, De Bale Lounge & Bar and Sapphire Lagoon Bar, and during our stay, they offered different happy hour timings throughout the day and evening. The A&P Margarita was a highlight of our trip.
Room service was also very good, with no delivery charge, so we used it a couple of times during our stay, and it worked well. Ordering drinks by the pool was easy, either through the app, by scanning a QR code, or by pressing a silent buzzer. Drink prices were reasonable for a hotel of this standard.
We used the gym daily, which was well-stocked and nicely cooled. The spa was good, but a little too expensive for our tastes, so we went outside the hotel for massages, pedicures and manicures.
We experienced one small blip during our stay, but it was handled superbly by the amazing and professional staff, particularly Agus Perdi, Front Office Manager, and Thomas Girard, Director of Food & Beverages. Thank you so much for everything you did to make our trip even more special.
Nearby is Bali Collection, about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, and the hotel also provides shuttle buses to and from it. We ate there on a few occasions and also used it to buy drinks and other essentials to bring back to the room, as there is a small grocery store.
Although Nusa Dua is quieter than areas like Seminyak or Canggu, for us, that was part of the appeal. The Laguna is ideal for people wanting calm luxury and a quieter resort rather than nightlife. The Laguna is a premium hotel, but the quality of the grounds, service, food and facilities made it feel absolutely worth it.
Bali itself is stunning. We toured the island, enjoyed Waterbom Bali in Kuta, which was about a 45 minute Grab ride from the hotel, and spent an evening at Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak, which was about a 60-minute journey away and was great for sunset and chilling. Bali traffic can be difficult, with too many cars and narrow roads, but Grab was the best way of getting around in our opinion.
We stayed for 12 nights and never felt bored or ready to leave. The Laguna was amazing, worthy of its five stars, and one of the few hotels that we will definitely return to. We genuinely felt like part of the hotel family. Thank you to everyone at The Laguna for everything you did for us.
