We choose this hotel because of its iconic pool, and it is really iconic, no doubt. And surrounded by jungle, the area is spectacular. But that is the hotel's only plus point.
The room is small, and only has the basic furniture. 1 chair in a double room, and 1 small closet. The shower and bathtub are outdoors in a walled internal courtyard, which is nice. The daily service of the room is terrible. A small hair left in the sink is still there in the evening, so the sink has not been cleaned. An empty shampoo bottle left in the shower is not taken away. There is nowhere to go so you must have all the meals in the hotel. Food is average at expensive prices (comparing to local prices, it is still cheap to Western standards) and the restaurant staff constantly tries to upsell you to a point where it is annoying. As an example, they ask if you want water, and we said "still", and they came with 2 large bottles of still water, opened both so they could charge us for 2 bottles. Going anywhere is a challenge, the local Gojek app (local Uber) offers limited possibilities. The hotel terribly overcharges if you ask them for a taxi. As an example, we asked them for a taxi to Ubud, 6.5 km, and they charged the same rate as what we paid from Denpassar airport to get to the hotel (40 km). They rip you off with a smile. Bottom line, this hotel is definitely not luxury, and not worth the 5 stars they claim.
