The hotel

This hotel blends contemporary design with traditional Balinese architecture. Design-led and very stylish, the Alila Ubud is a secluded hillside retreat renowned for its dramatic infinity pool with amazing views, which appears to float over the valley below. Its lush gardens, secluded courtyards and terraces create a wonderfully intimate and peaceful atmosphere. The Spa Alila nurtures body and mind, and sources many of its spa ingredients locally in the Balinese foothills, and with the therapists using ancient asian healing techniques and age-old beauty recipes you are sure to feel rejuvenated and refreshed after a visit. If you wish to get out and about there is a leisure concierge that will help you discover more about this fascinating area by trekking or cycling locally or organising cultural learning with visits to Balinese dancing events.

The outside shower and bathtub also a real novelty. The only tiny criticism was that the lighting was poor, especially in the bathroom. The staff were wonderful. They were open, kind and friendly and did everything they could to ensure our stay was perfect. The food was great. Breakfast was delicious with an array of choice. Entertainment was provided by the monkeys trying to to help themselves from the buffet. Just wonderful. Read less

We stayed at the Hyatt Alila in Ubud and were genuinely impressed by the serene, nature-immersed setting. The location is incredibly peaceful—perhaps a bit too relaxing for my personal taste, but my wife absolutely loved it. The infinity pool is a significant highlight with breathtaking views of the lush jungle—easily one of the best spots to unwind. Breakfast was generally good, though service was inconsistent depending on the staff, especially at the egg station. We stayed in a Pool Villa, and the room was fantastic. The private pool was a great size, and the outdoor bathtub surrounded by a fish pond was simply magical—such a unique and calming experience. One downside was the monkeys—they were quite aggressive and made us a bit uneasy at times. Also, during heavy rain, the roof of our villa started leaking, and we had to mop the floors ourselves to avoid slipping. The hotel offered to move us to a different villa (not a pool villa), but repacking would’ve been a hassle, so we declined. Unfortunately, there was no other compensation or follow-up, which was a bit disappointing for a property of this caliber. Overall, it’s a beautiful property perfect for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility, with a few service inconsistencies and room issues that hopefully are one-offs. Read less
