Our recent stay at Andaz Seoul Gangnam was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had in Korea. While nearly everything was excellent, two small issues kept it from being a perfect stay.
Breakfast:
Breakfast runs until 10:30 a.m. (with last entry at 10:00), but on our last morning, we felt rushed even though we arrived a little after 9:00. Staff began reminding guests around 9:30 that service would end soon, and when we ordered tea at 10:05, the server seemed annoyed and insisted it be served in a takeaway cup. While this didn’t ruin the meal, it created an unnecessary sense of haste so early before closing time. Otherwise, the breakfast was fantastic — the quality of the food, especially the Korean dishes, was among the best I’ve had at any hotel in Korea. Although the selection didn’t change much day to day, everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and delicious.
Sauna:
The private sauna area was closed for maintenance one day and not functioning properly the next — one pool was closed off, the other was barely warm at 32 °C, and the steam room was unheated. When it was working, though, it was an excellent place to relax.
Everything else:
The front desk staff went out of their way to recognize my Hyatt Globalist status — something that’s often overlooked at other five-star hotels in Korea. Even at full capacity, they managed to upgrade our room and clearly explained all the benefits. Despite how busy the hotel was, we never waited long for elevators or breakfast seating.
Every staff member we met was professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. After experiencing less-than-personal service at some other major hotels in Seoul, the warm hospitality here was refreshing.
The indoor pool was superb — comfortably heated with several hot tubs and a sauna in the public area. The staff were thoughtful toward my child, even bringing him a gown since the pool area was air-conditioned.
Rooms and location:
We stayed one night in a standard room and two nights in a premium room. The standard room was compact — fine for solo travelers but a bit tight for couples or families. The premium room was much more comfortable and worth the extra cost.
The location is unbeatable, with Apgujeong Station right outside and most major Seoul attractions reachable within 30 minutes by subway. Plenty of great dining options are nearby as well.
Despite a few minor issues, this was a superb stay overall. Andaz Gangnam sets a new standard for service and comfort among Seoul’s luxury hotels, and I look forward to returning.
