We spent 4 nights and 5 days at Chanalai Garden Resort during our family trip to Phuket, and by the end of our stay we realized that this resort's greatest strength is simple: location.
The resort sits directly above Kata Beach. Not "near the beach" as many hotels advertise, but genuinely right across from it. Every morning began with views of the Andaman Sea and every evening ended with a short walk back from the beach.
The surrounding area is extremely convenient for travelers. A 7-Eleven is located directly opposite the resort, and there are numerous restaurants, cafes, pharmacies, massage centers, and convenience stores within walking distance. Kata Night Market and the local walking street area are roughly 1-2 km away, making evening outings easy without requiring transportation.
Check-In and Service
We arrived several hours before check-in. Although our requested early check-in could not be accommodated due to room availability, the staff handled the situation professionally. They securely stored our luggage and encouraged us to enjoy Phuket while the room was being prepared.
Throughout the stay, the staff remained friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Their willingness to assist made a noticeable difference.
Rooms
Our room was clean, comfortable, and featured a lovely sea-facing balcony with two outdoor chairs that became our favorite place to sit in the evenings.
One important point for future guests: not all rooms include bathtubs despite some promotional photos suggesting otherwise. If a bathtub is important to your stay, verify this before booking.
The One Challenge: The Resort Layout
This is probably the most important thing prospective guests should know.
The resort is built on a steep hillside and spread across six different buildings. While this provides fantastic views, it also means navigating the property can be confusing initially.
We got lost multiple times during our first couple of days. Fortunately, maps are placed throughout the property and after a short adjustment period the layout becomes much easier to understand.
Breakfast Experience
Breakfast caters particularly well to non-vegetarian guests.
Highlights included:
- Egg station
- Multiple hot dishes
- Extensive bread and pastry section
- Cereals including cornflakes, fruit loops, and chocolate cereals
- Fresh fruits and juices
- Salad station
As vegetarians, we found the options somewhat more limited but still sufficient. Breads, fruits, cereals, cheeses, baked beans, and rotating vegetarian hot dishes helped create a satisfying breakfast each morning.
One useful note for Indian travelers: unlike many Indian hotels, rooms are stocked with coffee creamers rather than milk sachets.
Facilities
The resort offers:
- A large swimming pool with pool bar
- Complimentary beach towels
- A fully equipped 24-hour gym
- Sea-view common areas
- Easy beach access
The pool deserves special mention. It is large enough for families while remaining comfortable for casual swimmers.
Departure Experience
Our flight was much later than checkout time. After checking out, the hotel stored our luggage, allowing us to continue exploring Phuket without inconvenience until it was time to leave for the airport.
Final Verdict
Chanalai Garden Resort is not a luxury resort pretending to be perfect. It has a few quirks, most notably the hillside layout and the occasional challenge of navigating between buildings.
However, its beachfront location, helpful staff, clean rooms, good facilities, and easy access to everything around Kata Beach make it a strong choice for travelers visiting Phuket.
If your priorities are location, views, convenience, and value for money, Chanalai Garden Resort delivers where it matters most.
SGT Verdict: 8.5/10
Come for the beach. Stay for the views. Learn the layout before the layout learns you.
