A Pleasant Stay with Excellent Service
We had a very enjoyable stay at Sunprime Kamala Beach. Without a doubt, the hotel's greatest strength is its staff. With only a few exceptions, everyone we encountered—whether at reception, in the restaurant or among the housekeeping staff—was friendly, welcoming and helpful. The overall level of service was consistently high and contributed greatly to our stay.
Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a larger and more inviting room, which we appreciated. We did, however, experience an issue with the pillows. Some of the smaller pillows had lumpy filling, and two pillows—one in each room—had a strong sour smell. Housekeeping replaced them immediately, and later that day the reception even called to make sure everything had been resolved. That level of follow-up deserves genuine praise.
The pool areas are attractive, inviting and generally well maintained. One small detail was that there was a fair amount of sand and a few minor impurities on the pool floor. This is not something you notice from the surface, but it becomes visible when swimming underwater with goggles. More frequent cleaning of the pool floor would make an already pleasant pool area even better. We also missed having toilets close to the two pool areas nearest the reception, which would have been a practical improvement.
Breakfast is generally good, the omelette station works very well, and the restaurant staff do an excellent job of keeping tables clean, clearing plates quickly and continuously refilling coffee.
The one area that could clearly be improved is the way the butter is served. There was only one shared bowl of butter for all breakfast guests, with a single spoon that everyone used throughout the morning. As more and more guests used the same bowl, it quickly became less inviting. On several occasions we saw guests taking more butter than they needed and then putting part of it back into the bowl. We also noticed that new blocks of butter were simply placed on top of the butter already in the bowl. This gave the butter an unappetising appearance, and we therefore chose to buy our own individual butter portions and bring them to breakfast. In our opinion, individually wrapped butter portions would be a much better solution.
Sunprime Kamala Beach is a large resort with many guests. This is not a criticism—in fact, the hotel handles its size very well. We simply realised that we personally prefer smaller hotels with a quieter and more intimate atmosphere.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel has a good location, attractive facilities and a high level of service, which is undoubtedly its greatest strength. Our few criticisms concern relatively minor details that could easily be improved. For that reason, we rate Sunprime Kamala Beach 4 out of 5 stars.
