Our stay here was just okay.
The good: The whole property is beautiful and very relaxing. The shaded beach with the trees is absolutely amazing. It is the only reason we’d come back to this hotel. It feels undeveloped. There were plenty of chairs that were spread out to make it feel more secluded. It was quiet and so relaxing but still kid friendly. The dogs at the hotel were able to swim there too. The water is so clear and warm. There are plants in the water but sandy in some areas. I snorkeled there and it was decent. There is an outdoor shower & towel stand right behind the beach that made it convenient. There is no staff that comes around, so keep that in mind. Going along with the undeveloped feel, be prepared to see iguanas and birds in the trees above you, and you might be in the line of fire of them going to the bathroom on you from the trees - we had this happen to us and got a good chuckle from it.
If you want to be closer to the action of water sports, the food and drink, etc., you need to be on the less shady and more ‘typical’ beach. That beach has a dock view.
If you don’t like dogs, I don’t think this hotel is a good idea since there was a lot of them there. We’re big dog lovers so that was nice for us. There’s a poop bag station along the path between beaches and it was overall super clean with no evidence of dogs on the property other than us seeing them.
The restaurants are also good. The portions for breakfast were great and kept us full for a while. We were happy about that - for the price of the hotel, I think breakfast should be included. The breakfast is around $20/person just for the food portion. The tacos on the beach were honestly some of the best I’ve ever had! So tasty, but ~$30.
Self parking is very convenient.
Water filling station on every floor was convenient.
It’s good for young kids and very family friendly with lots of activities for them. The hotel had a lot of families and dogs. It did seem like a lot of the people we talked to were repeat customers.
The not so good: Check in was not good at all. We were just given a room key with no other information on anything with the hotel. I’ve never had an experience like that and I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels. No info on what time breakfast is or where it is, no info on amenities, etc. This is a major area for improvement as check in left us confused and lost. The staff at check in was not friendly (otherwise, we found staff to be overall friendly).
To go along with the check in problems, we wanted to book the beach s’more experience at night for our last evening there, and we were told you can’t book it the same day. Had we known that by easily explaining amenities at check in, we would’ve booked in advance but we weren’t told anything and there was no info stating that anywhere.
As many other reviews comment, the WiFi is not good. My husband and I have different cell carriers and both had 1 bar of service. The WiFi doesn’t extend to the shaded beach (unsure about the other one). Even in the room, it kept cutting out and my husband had difficulties having Zoom meetings for work. It’s not a good hotel to go to if you are trying to work or study. It is a good place if you’re trying to disconnect from your phone. We had to call the front desk for the WiFi information as we couldn’t find it anywhere in the room.
The rooms are okay. They are large enough for a family which was nice and our balcony wrapped around and was nice and big. We had a tree view and it was pretty and relaxing. It is also very clean. However, for the price of the rooms, the furniture is very obviously banged up and well-used and could use replacing.
The area with things for purchase for the rooms could use improvement. I asked for dish soap and couldn’t find any. I asked the restaurant and they also didn’t have any, so we had to go to a local pharmacy. It’d be nice to have some more things available for people to purchase in case they forgot them at home.
We didn’t go in the pool as it was totally not appealing and looked like it needed a power wash with a super obvious line of build-up around the inside of the pool. There was no one at the pool.
Towels ran out at the beach and there was no one to be found so I had to walk about 30 minutes between trying to find someone with no luck, then notifying the front desk they were out & the walking to the other beach and back with towels. Ideally that would be checked more frequently by staff.
This resort has a ton of potential but has fallen short.
Overall: If not for the shaded beach, we wouldn’t go back to this hotel. But that beach was awesome, so we’d consider coming back. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to my friends/family due to the large amount of inconveniences and cost of rooms for the service provided.
