The hotel

The first island you’ll hit as you drive through the keys is Key Largo, most famous for it’s watersports with reef snorkelling, diving, and glass bottom boat tours out of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park as must-do activities. Neighbouring the state park you’ll find Playa Largo set on 14.5 acres of secluded shoreline, providing your own piece of paradise to stay whilst exploring this part of Florida’s famous archipalageo. The private beach is the only thing between you and the sparkling waters of Florida Bay, where you can enjoy a range of watersports right from the hotel as well as venturing out to nearby attractions (of which there are plenty). There is a laid-back feel to the resort, perfectly in keeping with the area, but that doesn’t stop the facilities and service being up to standard. From a beach shack restaurant to a ceviche bar, all tastebuds are catered for, La Marea is a particularly great choice for locally sourced seafood and freshly handmade artisan breads and pizzas. When you’re seeking serenity after all the activity, book in at Ocean Spa where you can try specially formulated scrubs using coffee grounds, sugar, and salt. The top class service doesn’t end when you get to your room, an iPad is on hand to offer on-demand services to ensure your stay is up to scratch.

Hotel is beautiful but we wanted to chill at the tiki bar and the music was techno blasting in your face not very relaxing for a family weekend to the keys. Read the room Marrott! people want jimmy buffet and yacht rock music. Not a young crowd for 800 a night.

First, the property is beautiful. Very well maintained and the perfect size. The people are also very professional and kind. The manager Elena, Bobby and Anna at the pool and especially Edwin at the pool who was kind, responsive and fun. They took such good care of us. Also a special thanks to the ladies at the breakfast buffet Jackie and Kasesha and Annette. I really wanted to mention them by name because they were excellent, efficient and personable. The pool and the beach area are very clean. No seaweed at this time and warm and clear. There is music by the pool but it’s nothing offensive- kind of like reggae and yacht rock -no language that would horrify your grandma. The room is very nice and the housekeeping is reliable and thorough. The resort is centrally located on Ket Largo and there are a lot of restaurants nearby. When one or two issues arose Elena was right on it. The eventide celebration is gorgeous. The only small nit picky thing is there are no umbrellas on the beach and not too many at the pool. In this day and age we all know the dangers of prolonged exposure to the sun and a tent or umbrella option would be helpful. I bet Marriott could even get grant money from the American cancer society for that improvement. There are cabanas but they are very expensive. There is the usual aggressive race for shade in the morning which I find stressful. Anyway, no biggie and maybe an improvement they could consider. Attention Marriott corporate: The longer on the beach the more people spend on food and drinks… put up a canopy :) Overall, an awesome place and I am not easy to please at all. We are already planning a return trip! Read less

Beautiful resort with excellent service. We are Marriott Titanium and got free breakfast daily that was lovely. Jacqueline was there daily offering fresh juice with a smile. The pool bar had a good selection of drinks and lunch. Our room was ocean front walk out on the beach which was convenient and spacious. We had a king bedroom and living area with a sleeper sofa. There was a mini fridge. Cons a microwave in room would be nice. Daily housekeeping seems to be on request only. Room needs a deep clean, dusty corners and stains on rugs. Too many mosquitoes Read less
