We have been to St Pete’s several times for swim meets and decided this time to stay at The Vinoy, hoping to make it also a vacation. There are many things to like about the hotel, particularly its historical feel, location and grounds. The rooms were okay and nicely appointed - however, we were given probably one of the worst rooms in the hotel (zero view, low floor) despite the possibility of a room upgrade as we booked through American Express. Housekeeping was good but for some reason, our dirty dishes and glasses were not removed. After s couple of days, I left them outside the room in the hope someone would take them. The hotel leaves refillable water bottles in the room which is a very nice touch. However the ice and water room also held the garbage and it stank. It smelled like rotten food and dirty diapers and didn’t seem to be routinely cleaned. Despite all this, what really lets this hotel down is the lack of any enthusiasm or kindness in the staff. The front desk staff were not particularly welcoming. The staff at Lottie were simply unpleasant - no other word for it. We weren’t greeted once when entering the hotel. Perhaps this is because we did not have a car. The valets seemed to be friendly enough, just not to us obviously. An exception to all this was the staff at Paul’s Landing, were we had breakfast every day. They were all lovely and welcoming and it was the only place in the hotel were I felt we were staying at a resort. I should also mention that the gym is very good and has everything you could need. We have another stay at the Vinoy coming up which I can’t change but I’m hoping for a more positive experience second time around. Read less

A stunningly beautiful hotel with wonderful people working at it. The ambience is delightful. The bed was perfect. Nespresso in the room. The fitness area was impressive, with the sauna facilities in the locker room. I loved the massive flower arrangement in the lobby. It’s also in a great location: restaurants, walks, museums, it’s all there.

We have previously stayed at a Marriott Autograph Hotel (Mauna Kea). We have previously stayed (multiple times) at St. Pete's other pink hotel, the Don Cesar. They are two of our all-time favorite hotels. So we were sure the Vinoy was going to be another slamdunk experience. We were wrong. We arrived on a Saturday after a three hour flight. I had a medical consult the following Monday, and I was very apprehensive about it. My husband had had a stressful work week leading up to our trip. Our goal for the afternoon, at least, was to relax at the pool. When we arrived at the pool around 3, the pool itself, -- as well as the entire pool deck -- was extremely crowded. We were told there would be an hour wait for a lounge chair and to put our name in. We were very surprised (and very grateful that we did not have excited kids with us who would not get the hour wait concept). When my husband expressed incredulity to the manager on duty, George, the response he got was "well, I can't make the pool any bigger." Unfortunately, this was the level of hospitality we encountered pretty much our entire time there. With a few exceptions (Emma at the pool, the concierge), almost no one we encountered at the front desk, at Lottie, or at the breakfast buffet was interested in going the extra mile, or even just expressing emotion and enthusiasm. We were scratching our heads: what was with this place? We love St. Pete, and we very much wanted to love the Vinoy. The setting is perfect, the hotel's history is so interesting, the property has a range of restaurants, and so on. My medical consult resulted in the need to return to St. Pete several more times. How I wish we had a better experience at the Vinoy so we could consider it for future stays. (And as far as the pool situation, had we known in advance -- like when we were checking in, a "just so you know, the pool can get very crowded on weekends" would have gone far in managing our expectations). We visited family around Saint Pete’s area and stayed at the Vinoy for a night. After 15 years, still a great hotel. The pier area has great establishments. The area restaurants look awesome but we didn’t have time to check them out. The customer service was top notch. Glad to stop by and experience the Vinoy again!

My wife and I frequent the St. Pete area. We live in West Palm, I'm a pilot and fly us over for weekends. For my wife's birthday this year, I wanted to stay somewhere really nice. Unfortunately, there were too many negative things about the Vinoy that will prevent us from returning. - They charge $12.95/day for internet access. This is a $500+ per night property, and properties going for half this include free Wi-Fi. It's a shameful money grab. - The shower door track had mold/mildew (see photos) and the room smelled musty. Nasty. - During check-in we were told we would receive complimentary tickets to The Dali museum, which was the main attraction my wife wanted to see. They did give us tickets. However, it was pretty embarrassing when we approached the counter at The Dali, handed the tickets over and were told these were for a completely different museum (museum of history - see photos). Shelled out the $88 and began the tour. Annoying. - At checkout, there were almost $100 of "valet" charges on our bill. We didn't even have a car with us! - The view in the room was terrible. Basically looking at the delivery area and rooftop A/C units. Read less
