“Just about OK”

On the plus side, the hotel is reasonably priced and the surrounding area seemed safe with a few shops in walking distance. The pool is a decent size, if a little grubby, and the lady behind the tiki bar was particularly friendly and helpful, gaining the hotel an extra half-star from me. If you've not booked yet, I'd consider somewhere else but if you've already booked this place I wouldn't worry- it's not bad enough to spoil your holiday. The hotel does, however, have the air of a ghost town about it. The main bar and restaurant have closed down so a decent evening meal after coming in from an evening at the parks relies on walking or taxi-ing to the nearest restaurant. In fact, there is no longer an indoor bar open so even a quiet drink out of the daytime heat or evening storms requires a trip out or using the outdoor tiki bar which whilst partly covered is not ideal in inclement weather. The former restaurant area is opened each morning for breakfast. Unless stale, cold, expensive food with poor coffee in a derelict restaurant is your thing, this is best avoided and you're better off going out somewhere for breakfast. There are fast food options within walking distance. We avoided the reception/lobby area when possible as we were repeatedly offered a 'welcome gift' which in fact was a sales pitch for a new timeshare resort. Despite declining a tour of said resort on the first occasion we were approached a further two times. A polite 'no thanks, we've been asked before' was met with "You didn't take it up? Can I ask why you didn't take up your gift?" with a firmer refusal needed to shake off the saleswomen. Our room was reasonable enough although dated. The air conditioning was very effective but comprised a noisy window unit. The housekeeping was poor with room cleaning not usually happening until we were back from days out at around 5pm and the bare minimum of cleaning carried out. The handwash was not filled up in the bathroom throughout our stay despite leaving notes and sending messages. A coffee maker with rationed hot drinks was available, as was a microwave. Foam cups are all you get for your drinks- you'll need to wash these out or bring reusable cups as these are only replenished once a day and have a tendency to attract ants if left out unwashed (in fairness, this is the tropics!) I had quite an amusing moment on checking out. I was asked about my stay at reception and I explained some of the above points to be met with a smile and "that's great, I'm so happy"! I presume the poor chap didn't speak much English.
