Am a fan of these budget Univeral hotels and after previously staying at Dockside, wanted to check out Surfside. I must say, Surfside is now my favourite. Located a little closer to Idrive, you can leave the front of the hotel and the side gate has you out into International Drive in a jiffy with Walgreens right opposite. Or take the back exit, through the swimming pool or tower 2 and exit for the carpark where the Iride Trolley (stop 6) and Lynx buses will whisk you away. The public areas of the hotel are to a high standard, and reflect the quieter nature of the hotel. Reception staffed with helpful staff. Starbucks will give you your coffee fix, Universal shop for those gifts, gym and games room and a eating place with a couple of Freestyle machines. Couple of toasters and a microwave help guests out. Food is often cooked to order, so no scrum as experienced in Dockside. Staff, without exception polite and friendly. The pool area was smaller than Dockside but perfectly serviceable. Never had an issue with beds, although shade is an issue if you want to remain cool. The area by tower 1 was in shade in morning and by tower 2 in the afternoon. Midday and the only shade was umbrellas, not a huge number, and by the pool bar. A pool bar and a couple of coke freestyle machines compliment the offer. Free pool towels available. The lifeguards where very professional and very diligent. Not great if you are a weak parent and allow your kids to run wild, but they take their role seriously. Rooms are very similar to Dockside. We had a 2 bedroom suite which also came with a small coffee maker , can use to make tea (just heat the water) , a microwave and a full size fridge (no ice box) laundry for $4.50 on various floors, ice machines and a soft drink machine. TV in the room was huge and had a selection of free movies. Wifi of a decent speed available throughout hotel and rooms. My only niggle was for us Brits, we stay for a long time and while the free inroom safe was welcome, there is a lack of closet space, especially if fully occupied. Maybe add draws to that bedside cube? The room was refreshed daily, beds made, bins emptied, toiliteries topped up, new towels and toiletries but only cleaned once per week. Efficient bus to not only Citywalk, Volcano Bay but also Epic. Never waited too long but obviously more frequent during the busy times. All in all, a good basic universal hotel that is head and shoulders over the value offerings along Idrive Read less

I slept very well for 7 days without any disturbing. I found the hotel is nice and clean, restaurant is very convenient with reasonable price food, shuttle buses are very frequent to take people to the parks. Whenever I request something, like a bath towel, it will come quickly. Amazing experience. Read less

If you want a convenient and cost effective vacation to Orlando, then the Universal Endless (or Dockside) might be just the ticket! Centrally located for all the Universal parks (Volcano Bay, Universal Orlando, City Walk, Islands of Adventure and the new Epic Universe) you’ll be hard pushed to find a better resort at this price point. For repeat Orlando visitors, worth pointing out that the Universal Endless (Surfside and Dockside) sits on the site of the former Wet and Wild water park. Whilst the hotel is only billed as a 3*, it’s worth noting that this is by US standards not British. The resort is much grander, cleaner and polished than you would expect of a UK 3 star resort so don’t let this dissuade you. For circa $200 a night, this represents great value when you consider the Loews Portifino sister resort (which I will review separately) comes in at a mighty 900 bucks! Staying at any of the Universal resorts comes with a number of really useful benefits. Firstly, entry to all parks (including Epic) comes with one hour early admission. For those without express passes, this is invaluable allowing you to tick off 2-3 rides before the park opens to the general public. Secondly, is the free shuttle service running from 0700 to park close, ensuring you can get to/from location hassle free. On site, the Surfside resort boasts a number of convenient amenities - Grab and Go Restaurant, Starbucks Coffee and Avis car hire. Located next to the pool, there is also the on site bar which opens until 23:00 nightly. Be mindful it’s not the cheapest though, with a Pina Colada cocktail (from the machine so not hand crafted) coming in at a whopping 15 bucks! For all the plus points at this resort, I do feel Universal could do better here and make the alcoholic drinks slightly more affordable. You’ll find much better value for money along International Drive, where there are an array of bars and restaurants to suit all - happy hour typically running from 15:00-18:00 nightly so don’t miss out! Overall a great stay at the Universal Endless. Operating well below capacity (as are many resorts in Orlando), don’t let the political landscape dissuade you from a trip to the United States. The reality is, it didn’t impact our vacation one iota. Read less

We stayed at universals Surfside suites for two weeks at the end of May to the beginning of June and had a wonderful stay. We first came to Florida two years ago and stayed at the Aventura but we booked later this year and wanted to do the trip on more of a budget. Firstly the location is fantastic if you want to be in walking distance of the restaurants up international drive, there’s also a Walgreens over the road which is really handy. We found the gentleman on the front desk to be very friendly and knowledgeable on check in. We arrived at around 2pm and was expecting to leave our bags with luggage services however our room was ready and we could check straight in! The room was bright and light although we did find some half eaten chocolate cake in the fridge and some drinks left over from the previous guests but everywhere else was super clean. Towels were changed everyday and beds made daily. The food in the food court was fantastic really well priced for the meals and tasty and definitely something for everyone. We took an uber to Walmart to buy water however you can use the freestyle machines in the hotel for water. The pool was great for cooling off after long morning in the park and we often came back to chill before heading back out - it was never crowded and lots life guards. There were a couple of niggles we had, mainly the noise on a night. We had a couple of noisy neighbours and the walls are quite thin so we did complain on one evening, the noise soon stopped after. The only other downside is it is not in walking distance to city walk, meaning you have to rely on the bus. We waited over an hour at city walk one day for a bus despite texting the hotel. We complained at the universal desk who said there wasn’t anything they could do however the reception lady was very sympathetic and offered us some meal vouchers. All in all we had a fantastic time and I would definitely come back to Surfside in the future if we were coming in a budget Read less

Both times I have requested top floor rooms in tower 2. The hotel is worth more than 3 stars in my opinion.
