The pictures make it look much better than it actually is. The actual resort looks tired and in need of updating. Reception is staffed by very helpful cast members, as Disney like to call their staff. As 1st timers in a disney resort it was all a bit of the unknown. They explained everything set up the disney app, Magic bands etc that you need these days in the parks to enter etc. Room. We had a premier room which to be honest was a little small given that it was supposed to sleep 4. With only 3 draws storing everything would be a problem. Rooms were cleaned every other day to differing standards. Some days were better than others it was little things like the coffee was all replaced but the paper cups weren't. With the 2nd double bed down I am sure you would bash your legs on the edges. Drying wet stuff was almost impossible as there was no where to hang anything. Food. Umm.. this is the bit that really lets the place down. Given the resorts distance from any other eating place its a very restricted menu consisting of fries, pizza, burgers etc. They do have the same 3 specials each night but the ones I had were not that well cooked. Price wise its about average. Service was very slow when we were there and they only serve particular items at the serving stations so if you want two different items it means 2 lines. The registers, or tills, were only half open and as they are under the air con vents the food was cold by the time we had paid and found a table. Pool Excellent, clean and well staffed by lifeguards the best bit about the resort. All in all its very much a budget resort with good transport links to the other disney parks etc via the resort bus system. Read less

There's only one benefit to this hotel for us and that's the free hotel and theme park parking. If you are early morning people you might also get use out of the 30 mins early park access (equates to 1 extra ride). Talking of early mornings the walls are so thin we were awoken one morning to the sound of someone in the room next door urinating, not my usual alarm of choice. We stayed in a preferred room which meant it was slightly closer to the lobby/reception. But not enough to justify the extra expense. It also wasn't ready for the 3PM check in so we sat in the lobby waiting to be notified by email or the app that it was ready. The room size with the Murphy bed in use was compact to say the least and with hard exposed corners a number of ouch moments became the norm. Unpacking bags for a family of 4 would have been a squeeze with just 3 draws and a single wardrobe so we lived out of bags for the duration of our stay. Rooms are not cleaned daily and towels are not changed daily, however rooms are subject to a daily inspection (if I heard the receptionist correctly, the lobby was very loud) The closest we came to a pixie dust moment was the dirty nappy left unbagged outside the door of the room next to us. We used Disney transportation once and the bus seemed to take ages to arrive and get to Magic Kingdom, the queue is out in the open, with no shelter so you either lose your place in the queue or if its a really sunny day you bake as you wait. The drop off at magic kingdom was outside the park entrance so it did avoid the boat over which was a bit of a relief at the end of the day when we were tired and ready to put our feet up and go to sleep. If you are comparing Disney value resorts to Universal value resorts and thinking how different can it be - stop. Having stayed at Cabana Bay I'd say that's a 3 star hotel. All star music a 1-2 star, think motel not hotel. In my experience having stayed off site before you can book a 4 star hotel complete with a kitchen, living area in close proximity to the park in the lake buena vista area and even after paying for theme park parking still be in the same financial position but with the added comforts that make a holiday an enjoyable experience and not an endurance challenge. I might have missed it but I didn't see the hotel looking like the amazingly illuminated photo being used to promote it. Read less

We queue all day for absolutely everything so when you get to your hotel you want food and drink with minimum fuss. Paper plates and plastic cutlery what the hell is that all about . You even queue for check in and out and queue to ask any questions during your stay. Pool is a salt water pool and water is warm and there is very little shade and also no slides or anything for the younger children. Umbrellas are rare so you are set up to burn . Flaming expensive for a budget hotel . Would never stay in these again and would never recommend it Read less

Meh, is how we felt about this hotel, obviously it’s lovely and bright and the theme is good but there’s nothing luxurious about it, the room for a family was TINY! we didn’t even have enough space to unpack all our clothes and one of the drawers wouldn’t stay shut and kept sliding out so we had to fold some card and stick it in to keep it shut. It felt more like a camp than a hotel to squeeze as many as they can in, we stayed in the broadway section which wasn’t too far from the reception, unfortunately we stayed there the same time as I think a cheerleading competition must of been in, very annoying them blasting music outside our room all day until past 9pm practising, not one team but they seem to switch, their was plenty of fields for them to go to so god knows why they chose to practise somewhere so built up, very inconsiderate! It’s s shame the hotel didn’t enforce their policy’s with them, I felt they would have if it was a single family but obviously didn’t want to loose so much custom. The second day I had enough after being at universal all day with my children we just wanted to relax and unwind so I opened the door and screamed SHUT UP over their ridiculously loud boom box! Thankfully they moved on sharpish after that! 😂 I can’t for the life of me think of his name but the hotel main manager a small coloured man was SO rude! I couldn’t believe he worked for Disney! Very short (not only in height) and abrupt with 0 patience towards guests and he clearly hated his job, not ideal when your guests are predominantly small children! The food court was ok and catered to most as I I’m not the biggest American food fan so it was nice to have healthy options such as mash fish and veg, that was yummy! The shuttles were handy and often enough, it’s a shame they don’t go to universal though. Overall it’s fine and very clean, the rooms and grounds, well maintained, and good selection of tv channels, but quite basic, we like a bit of luxury and space when we go on holiday so wouldn’t return, you’re paying for the Disney brand but can get much better for the price, much better located aswel as their was nothing to walk to in the evening here, very segregated which was a shame and also something we don’t like.
