Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great stay at Disney without feeling like Disney

May 3, 2025 PhoenisSunDog Indian Shores, Florida

Boulder Ridge makes you Feel like you are not even at Disney or even Florida. Feels like the Northwest with all the pine trees. Room was clean and quiet. We had a one bedroom villa that had two separate sinks, a soak tub, shower, and toilet. Staff was friendly and me me at the door for check in. Boats to Magic Kingdom were nice.

From the time we checked our bags with Taylor to the time we loaded the Mears car to depart, the hotel staff was friendly, and the hotel was incredible. The cast members really make the stay worthwhile, in my opinion. Unfortunately, I am really bad with names, so I can not name everyone who made my stay extra special.

The Carolwood Pacific Railway Room is a hidden gem at the Wilderness Lodge. Located in the DVC Boulder Ridge Villas, the Railway Room is a wing off the lobby. The Railway Room is a cozy hideaway for those who need a break from the Disney park mania. The large reading room has tables and chairs as well as comfortable rocking chairs in front of a stone fireplace. Photos, train models and other memorabilia fill the room. Large windows look out to the surrounding woods. We were lucky to catch the second half of the Wonders of the Lodge Art & Architecture Tour (free daily tour) given by Alan, a Cast Member who has lived and breathed Disney his entire life. With his knowledge of all things Disney and his own personal life stories, Alan brought to life the black and white photos and memorabilia displayed in the Railway Room. Thank you Alan :o) We noticed that many hotel guests visit this room. It's a shame that Disney does the tour only in the morning when most guests are at the parks. Read less

We don't go to Disney very often (e.g. once a decade) so when we go we want to experience it as best as possible. Staying on property has it's perks, in particular the early opening and the transportation. Wilderness Lodge is expensive, yes, but it's much less for the large multi-room accommodations at Boulder Ridge compared to the other Deluxe level hotels. The rooms were very comfortable, clean and well laid out. Having the kitchen space was nice too considering the youngest kids normally want very simple meals like easy mac or similar which require the microwave and not a huge restaurant bill. I definitely recommend if you have a larger group and want to all be in one room. Read less
