The hotel

Situated on a sparkling 25-acre lake near Disney’s Hollywood Studios and just a leisurely stroll from EPCOT, discover this grand New England-style resort hotel. Disney's Yacht Club Resort shares a host of amenities with it's pastel-toned sister, Disney's Yacht Club Resort. Most noticeable of these is the mini water park Stormalong Bay, featuring a sand bottom pool, water slides, a lazy river and whirlpools - keeping the little ones happy when you're not at the parks. For adults there's plenty to do too, with the Ship Shape health club on site to work off some steam, or enjoy a mouth-watering steak dinner at the sophisticated Yachtsman restaurant. There's plenty of casual options too, along with tennis and volleyball courts to keep all ages entertained. At this hotel you're located right next to the marina where, in addition to renting boats to sail around Crescent Lake, you can board a ferryboat for direct transportation to EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s BoardWalk. It's worth looking at the options to upgrade to a club level room for access to the lounge with refreshments available throughout the day.

Before I begin, I have always given this hotel a 5 star review. This time around, sadly, the stay was lacking and here are the reasons why: - we were so happy that the pool had completed its refurbishment prior to our arrival, which let’s face it, is a big draw for this particular resort. However, only about half of their shade umbrellas were set up for use. That meant that shade was at a premium cost and required someone in our group to enter the line for pool entrance (10:00 AM) by 8:30! And even that did not guarantee a shady spot. Also, they had about 45 flotation tubes before refurbishment began that needed to be replaced. They were still waiting for the new ones to arrive during part of our stay, so for 3-4 days there were approximately only 15 available. We ended up buying our own at local grocery store. The water in the pool was very, very warm and we often got out and stood under the shower that stood next to a jacuzzi to cool off. The sweltering heat wave during our stay is just an occurrence of nature and had nothing to do with Disney, but not providing shade was something Disney should have addressed. - Ale and Compass : their menu has changed and not in a good way. The buffet “enhancement “ use to be offered as a stand alone menu item. It was perfect for someone wanting more of a continental breakfast. That is no longer the case. It can only be added to an entree. I wanted to order just a side of toast. Toast is no longer available!! The servers all rolled their eyes at this ridiculous decision. They offered me an English muffin which I returned because they could not toast it, again because they don’t offer toast. They “grilled” it but only on one side so it was floppy and raw on the other side. Ended up having breakfast at Boardwalk restaurant that was more in line with typical breakfast menu. HVAC: for two nights AC was shut off between midnight and 4:00 AM for maintenance. They provided us with a fan which we utilized because it got quite sticky while under the sheets during these 4 hours. I can’t come up with a solution to how this should have been handled and I understand that the maintenance was necessary. I guess it would come down to whether the down time should have been during day when people are at pool or parks versus nighttime when we all need a good night’s sleep to face another day. You can decide that for yourselves. Read less

We have stayed at all of the Epcot resorts (Boardwalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club) a couple times each. Pros: The major draw of Yacht Club is its location. You can easily walk to Epcot from the resort. You can also walk to Hollywood Studios (20-25 minutes). Alternately, you can take the Skyliner or a boat over to HS. If you're already at Epcot, you can also take the Monorail to the TTC and switch to the Magic Kingdom monorail to visit MK. Yacht Club and Beach Club share a large sand bottomed pool which is restricted to YC and BC guests. It's a nice pool, but it was getting refurbished while we were staying at the resort. Cons: The quick service food options are very limited. If you want a quick service meal, you might want to consider walking over to Epcot. We also had an annoying experience with bell services. When we arrived, our resort room wasn't ready (which wasn't a surprise). Bell services put our luggage on a cart for storage and we walked into the resort lobby. About 5 minutes later, we received the text that the room was ready. Great! I went back outside and observed that the cart with our luggage was still at the curb. I told a bell services CM that our room was ready, our luggage was right there, and we would just take it ourselves. He told me that we could not take our luggage and I'd have to go inside and tell the CM at the bell services counter that we wanted it sent up to the room. I could understand this if the luggage had been placed into their storage area, but it was 5 minutes later and hadn't even left the curb. We went inside, told the bell services counter that our room was ready, and we wanted it delivered now because we planned to walk over to Epcot. We waited in our room 45 minutes and the luggage still hadn't shown up. One of our party went back to bell services and the CM said they didn't know when we wanted it delivered. That experience was not a good start to our vacation. If you decide to stay at an Epcot resort, be prepared for bell services CMs to hold your luggage hostage for tips. All of the other CMs at the resort were great. We spoke to many of them from various other departments. Read less
