Would you believe me if I said that Heaven on Earth can exist? Well, it does, and thanks to a lot of joy, we were able to experience one of the best vacations yet. My husband and I have always had the Maldives on our bucket lists of places to go, and when a great deal came our way, we couldn't wait to plan our trip. Traveling from the States makes the trip quite the haul, but it is all worth it once you make it to the island. With the political climate, we contemplated whether we should proceed with going through with the trip, especially because we had a layover in Abu Dhabi. We decided to move forward, and during our layover, we had quite the scare with a few evacuations right as we were boarding for Male. However, thankfully, everything worked out, and we were that much closer to paradise on Earth. When we finally arrived at Joy Island, we were greeted by the warmest staff at the dock. Our host for our stay was, Naseem, who was so kind and attentive throughout the whole trip. There is nothing that we could have asked for that he was not willing to help to ensure our stay was comfortable. Talk about not having to worry, lift a finger, or make any reservations. We let Naseem know what we wanted to do and took care of the rest. Our daily treat was meeting the amazing staff at Joy, who made each day that much more worthwhile. From the daily rides to escape some of the walking in the sun, to the staff at the restaurants, spa, and anyone we came in contact with, we could not have asked for a better experience. To be greeted each day by name made me feel so special. The island itself had everything that we needed to relax, unwind, and enjoy each other's company. Although this is a family resort, we didn't have any issues with noise, kids running around, or grounds unkept. Joy was on top of it every day. They had nightly entertainment, daily activities such as water aerobics, yoga, and so much more. No pressure to partake in any of it. From our room, we enjoyed the ability to step right into the water and snorkel. The Maldives has some of the bluest, clearest water I have ever experienced. I cannot explain the level of peace I felt while there. I enjoyed our daily conversations with the staff and learning about them and their families, and what has brought them to Joy Island. I enjoyed the food and what the Island had to offer, but most importantly, the time with my husband. We even met some friends, while there, Denis and his lovely wife Elena from Russia, who are great dance partners. If there is anything that was unexpected, it was the guests not so engaging with strangers, but I think it's a cultural thing, as a lot of the guests were from Russia; however, we were so engulfed with the staff and the island that we got past that. If you are ever considering the Maldives, please make sure Joy Island is at the top of your list! They have some of the best staff, and I hope that when we return, we get to meet some of our friends again who brought us so much Joy! Thank you to Naseem, Indoh, Juni, Gracia, Niha, Puja, Amisha, Phub, Layla, Asuath, Naahill, Alyssa, Ikuran, Maya, Sadun, and Sheen (who I believe was at the fruit station every day). Please forgive me if I misspelled any of your names or have missed anyone, but just know how much you are missed and how much we appreciate your hospitality. Joy - you have some of the best staff! A place that I will never forget and often think about. Until we meet again!
