My fiancée and I visited Joy Island for the second time in January. Following our incredible stay in April 2024, we decided we’d love to share the experience with my parents, and we weren’t disappointed.
Just like last time, the resort – and above all its wonderful staff – exceeded all our expectations. We tried as much as possible to repay the kindness, warmth and boundless helpfulness we received from you. In return, we were showered with even more affection.
In my opinion, it is the conversations and relationships—forged by nothing more than the friendliness and mutual interest of the entire team—that make the experience on Joy Island so perfect. Many companies could provide the financial resources for a resort of this kind. However, it is brought to life by the staff across all departments and at all levels, and on this scale, I have yet to find a place on my travels that can match the high standard set by Joy Island.
The dedication and kindness of staff members such as Dita, Cytra, Juni, Gita, Haam, Naahil, Alyssa, Alisha, Gulya, Ausath and Rishal are unparalleled. Every conversation and interaction with them has enriched our holiday, and they have all deeply inspired and impressed me with the noticeable pride they take in their work!
We also had many interesting conversations with our host, Hasaan, on various occasions, covering all sorts of topics. He has a very friendly manner and loves to share his knowledge of the Maldives and its people. We learnt a great deal from him and always thoroughly enjoyed his company!
We were also deeply impressed by Asia. As a studied marine biologist, she proved to be a walking encyclopaedia on everything to do with the sea and was always happy to share her knowledge with everyone.
She looks after the reef on which the artificial island is situated with incredible dedication. She also accompanies the shorter snorkelling tours around the island, during which she showed us lots of little things that we would never have noticed without her.
On our final evening, we also had the opportunity to meet Raghu, one of the leading figures on Joy Island, during a private hosting. Thanks to his professional and genuine manner, the time flew by as we chatted. As Raghu also manages the island’s technical resources, on the morning of our departure we had the chance to tour the resort’s technical facilities together with the chief engineer, Zulmy, and Raghu. We design technical systems for 5-star hotels in Switzerland ourselves, and I must admit that I was more than impressed by the sophistication and the overall focus on energy-efficient and cost-effective operation demonstrated by Raghu and his team. Ensuring the operation of a self-sufficient facility of this size at all times, whilst avoiding tying up too many resources in maintenance-intensive redundancies, requires an exceptional level of technical understanding, forward-thinking planning and intensive maintenance.
We’re currently planning our next visit in spring 2027 and can’t wait to see what new things are in store for us and which of our valued staff members we’ll get to see again :)
Thank you all & see you soon
Michael from Switzerland
