Deluxe Villas are 75 sqm, with a king-size bed, a private garden, open-plan living and sleeping areas, large windows overlooking the garden and an outdoor shower. These villas sleep maximum 3 adults (or 2 adults, 2 children under 18 years).

Selected non-alcoholic drinks, plus house beer, wines and liquors are included, along with complimentary snorkelling equipment and two hours’ use of an ocean kayak per day.

“Beautiful Resort, Terrible Management”

Beautiful resort, extremely clean, and most of the staff are polite and kind. Unfortunately, our experience was seriously affected by an unacceptable lack of communication and responsibility from the management. Before our arrival, I clearly informed the resort by email that I have an egg allergy. I repeated this again at check-in and even signed an allergy form. Despite this, for our anniversary the hotel delivered a cake to our room containing egg. We ate it trusting that the resort had respected the allergy information provided multiple times. When I started feeling unwell, I called reception specifically to double-check and was initially reassured that the cake was absolutely egg-free. Only later, after checking with the kitchen, they called back to admit that it did in fact contain egg. I was sick throughout the night and had to cancel our plans the following morning. What disappointed us almost as much as the incident itself was the way it was handled. The chef was sent to our room to apologize, when in our opinion this was clearly a management responsibility. The chef should not have been put in the position of taking responsibility for a serious failure in internal communication. Despite our formal complaint and follow-up email, no manager ever came to speak to us personally or properly acknowledge what had happened. For a five-star resort, we expected a completely different level of accountability and guest care, particularly when dealing with a documented food allergy. Food was another major disappointment. With the exception of the sushi restaurant, which we enjoyed, we found the overall quality surprisingly low for this price point. Fruit and fish quality were disappointing, grilled food was consistently overcooked and lacking flavour, while prices are extremely high for what is served. Reception service was also disappointing. One of the reception staff members we dealt with spoke Chinese but barely any English, making basic communication extremely difficult. Even changing our departure time took hours, with repeated promises to call us back and no follow-up. Not what you expect from a five-star international resort. Velassaru is undeniably beautiful and very well maintained, and the staff are generally lovely. But a five-star resort is not only about beautiful surroundings. When a guest communicates a food allergy repeatedly and in writing, getting it right is a basic safety requirement. And when something this serious goes wrong, management should personally take responsibility. Sadly, this experience completely changed our impression of the resort.

“Dissapoitment”

This hotel used to be one of our absolute favorites, and we have stayed there more than four times because we truly loved it. Unfortunately, it seems that after the change in management, the loyalty benefits for returning guests have changed as well. We believe that when a hotel creates a loyalty program and builds relationships with repeat guests, those guests should continue to be recognized and appreciated — especially those who have stayed multiple times and have supported the hotel over the years. It’s honestly very sad to see a hotel lose regular, loyal customers simply because of changes to its loyalty policy. Returning guests are not just numbers — they are people who chose your hotel again and again because they trusted and loved the experience. For now, though, we honestly don’t feel like we are being treated as returning or valued guests anymore. Because of that, we’ve decided to try a different property for the first time. We truly hope the new management will reconsider its approach and realize how important it is to value and retain regular customers. We loved this hotel and would have happily continued coming back, but loyalty should work both ways. ❤️

“A Wonderful and Relaxing Maldivian Escape with Exceptional Staff”

Niva Velassaru is located in the South Malé Atoll, only a 25-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport. The short transfer was a major advantage for us: because we arrived early in the morning and departed late in the evening, we were able to enjoy ten full days on this wonderful island. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the excellent organisation and warm welcome provided by the airport representative, the speedboat crew, and the reception team. We stayed in a Deluxe Beach Villa, which was spacious, comfortable and beautifully furnished. It was situated only a few steps from the beach, where plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas were available. What impressed us most was the staff. Everyone—from reception, the bars and restaurants to the maintenance team—was exceptionally friendly, helpful and positive. Their attitude made us feel completely at home, almost as though the island were our own. The wonderful culture shared by the entire team is one of the resort’s greatest strengths and makes a stay here particularly pleasant. The beaches offer something for everyone, from experienced swimmers and snorkellers to beginners and families with children. The main beach on the northwestern side is ideal for enjoying the sunshine and beautiful white sand, and it is also the area recommended by the resort for snorkelling. The beach on the southern side is recommended for swimming, but we discovered that the marine life there can be even more impressive when snorkelling. As this side opens directly towards the ocean, we saw stingrays, several blacktip reef sharks and many other beautiful marine creatures. The resort is very well designed. The beach villas are arranged around the island and separated by lush vegetation, providing a good level of privacy. The overwater villas are located on the opposite side of the island, farther from the main bars and restaurants, but the buggy service is very well organised and can be requested at any time. We also particularly enjoyed the cocktail party in front of Fen Restaurant. Complimentary cocktails, other beverages and snacks were served, giving guests an opportunity to meet the resort management and staff. The team also presented and explained the various activities available at the resort, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Overall, Niva Velassaru is a peaceful and beautiful destination for a relaxing holiday. Its greatest strength is undoubtedly its exceptional staff, followed by the beautiful beaches, diverse marine life and excellent variety of activities. We had an unforgettable stay and would gladly return.
