From the moment we arrived at Sun Siyam Vilu Reef, it felt like stepping into a version of paradise that actually delivers. The resort is absolutely heavenly — peaceful, beautifully laid out, never overcrowded, and immaculate in every detail. We were able to enjoy genuine privacy on the beach and in the bars, which made the whole experience feel calm, luxurious, and deeply restorative.
The food is outstanding, with huge variety and exceptional quality throughout our stay. What impressed us most was how genuinely inclusive the dining was. I’m vegetarian with my own quirks, and my husband is very much a meat-and-chips kind of guy — and somehow they catered beautifully for both of us, every single day, without either of us feeling limited or awkward. That takes real thought and skill.
Chiminda (Chef) deserves special mention. He went above and beyond, cooking things that weren’t even on the menu, adapting dishes effortlessly, and making sure we were always fed well and with care. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and his pride in his food really showed.
The restaurant and bar staff are simply wonderful:
• Imran, our waiter, was funny, warm, and incredibly engaging. His coconut oil workshop was not only enjoyable but genuinely educational.
• Vijay, a young waiter with endless creativity and humour, brought so much joy to our days — friendly, thoughtful, and always smiling.
• Ram, at the Well Done restaurant, was absolutely hilarious and made sure menu items were adapted so we could enjoy the full experience.
• The bar team were fantastic — one gentleman (whose name we didn’t catch) was brilliant at pool and such a joy to chat with.
• A special shout-out to the security gentleman who often goes unmentioned — he was great to talk to and shared fascinating information about the sharks around the island.
Behind it all is Nitin, Head of Restaurants — a truly world-class leader. You can immediately see how proud he is of his team and the high standards he upholds.
Our host, Aminath, was an absolute gem. Always available on WhatsApp, endlessly helpful, kind, and genuinely lovely. She made everything feel easy and personal.
And then there is Sahib, our room attendant — who honestly deserves his own paragraph. I have no words for how epic this man is. Every day he greeted us with warmth and joy, created beautiful leaf art on the bed, and took such pride in making our villa perfect. He was thoughtful, friendly, and completely outstanding.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and the resort made it unforgettable — cake and wine in our room, and a tree planted in our honour with a memory sign. It was deeply touching and something we will always remember.
The experiences included in the all-inclusive package are exceptional. The dolphin cruise was completely out of this world — loads of dolphins, a long relaxed cruise, and the most beautiful sunset to finish.
Snorkelling is incredible, with a stunning house reef and the option to go further out. You can watch fish swimming past while having breakfast, see the crabs emerge at dusk during dinner, and then watch the sharks and rays come out at night — absolutely magical.
Evenings offer something for every mood. There’s music most nights, with the choice to stay chilled in the restaurant areas or be a bit livelier in the bar. One personal highlight was a DJ night playing 90s–2000s dance bangers — listening to those classics while lying on a Bali bed over the water with cocktails felt like Ibiza for us oldies (in the best possible way).
The spa deserves a special mention — Eddie gave an outstanding massage that genuinely made me feel like I was floating. Watersports are excellent too, with plenty included in the package. Even when the tropical rain rolls in, it’s beautiful rather than disruptive — there is always something to do, whatever the weather.
The resort is exceptionally clean, beautifully maintained, and every single member of staff greets you with a genuine smile. Nothing feels forced — just authentic warmth and care.
This experience was beyond anything we could have dreamed of. Sun Siyam Vilu Reef isn’t just a holiday — it’s a place that stays with you.
