My wife an I has just returned from a 10‑day stay at VARU by Atmosphere, and once again the Maldives has exceeded every expectation. This was our second consecutive year visiting a Maldivian island — last year we stayed at OBLU SELECT Sangeli — and just like before, we were deeply impressed by the exceptional warmth, professionalism, and genuine kindness of the Maldivian people.
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed not just as guests, but almost as family. Every single member of staff showed an outstanding level of hospitality, always greeting us with a smile, always ready to help, and always going above and beyond to make our stay special. Their friendliness never feels forced — it’s sincere, natural, and truly part of what makes the Maldives such a magical place.
It’s difficult to know where to begin when expressing our gratitude. The island itself is breathtaking, but it’s the people who transform a beautiful holiday into an unforgettable experience. Whether it was the restaurant teams, housekeeping, reception, or the activities staff, everyone contributed to making our stay perfect in every way.
I’m not sure this review can fully capture the pride, dedication, and heart shown by the entire VARU team, but we want to say a heartfelt thank you. You made our holiday memorable once again, and we already know this won’t be our last visit to the Maldives.

Your kindness and gentle presence made every meal more enjoyable. It was truly lovely talking with you and getting to know you a little during our stay.
- To SHAH, thank you for the beautiful bracelet you crafted right in front of us during the Friday Party and so kindly offered to my wife. Watching you create it by hand made the gesture even more special. It was truly a pleasure talking with you and learning a little more about your wonderful country. Your kindness and openness added a personal touch to our stay that we will always remember.
- To all the team at KAAGÈ Restaurant (and our apologies for not being able to mention each of your names individually), thank you for the sublime food and for taking the time to explain how each dish was prepared. Learning a little more about your culinary traditions and culture made the dinner even more meaningful. A special thank you to ABDHO for the beautiful bouquet crafted by hand and offered to my wife — such a gentle, thoughtful gesture that touched us deeply and made our experience truly unforgettable.
- To all staff at NÜ Restaurant, thank you for your incredibly welcoming attitude and the consistently delicious food throughout our stay. Your kindness made every dinner feel special. We are especially grateful for allowing us — almost every evening — to admire the magnificent sharks that visit the waters around the restaurant. Watching them glide beneath us became one of the highlights of our trip. And the beautiful table display you prepared for our final dinner at VARU was truly unforgettable. Your attention to detail and genuine hospitality made us feel honoured and cared for.
- To BALAL, thank you for keeping our water villa (318) absolutely immaculate throughout our stay. Your attention to detail and the care you put into your work did not go unnoticed. We are especially grateful for your gentleness in adjusting the evening turndown service to suit our needs — that made our stay even more comfortable and personal.
There are so many other wonderful people we wish we could thank personally, but unfortunately we were not able to note everyone’s names. To all of you, please accept our sincere apologies — and our heartfelt gratitude. Every smile, every gesture, and every moment of kindness contributed to making our stay unforgettable. Even if your names are not written here, your impact on our holiday is deeply appreciated and will not be forgotten.
We had a wonderful stay, and in the spirit of continuous improvement, we would like to share a few suggestions that we believe could enhance the guest experience even further:
* Smoking Policy in Common Areas — Smoking should not be allowed in shared spaces such as bars, to safeguard the health and comfort of all guests, especially children and elderly visitors. Introducing clearly designated smoking areas would help maintain the serene and healthy atmosphere of this beautiful island.
* Alternative Beach Setup During Bad Weather — During periods of monsoon or rough seas, organising an alternative beach area on the opposite side of the island (with sun loungers and umbrellas) would allow guests who wish to enjoy the sea to still do so comfortably.
* Beach Aesthetics and Erosion Protection — Some sections of the beach are less visually appealing due to the exposed sandbags used for erosion control. Exploring more natural‑looking or integrated solutions could help preserve the harmony and beauty of the island’s coastline.
* Buffet Restaurant Layout & Live Cooking Stations — In our view, the buffet restaurant could feel more vibrant with a refreshed layout and better food quality. Adding live cooking stations (such as freshly grilled fish or meat) would bring energy and variety to the dining experience.
We would happily return to VARU, though we’re also very keen to discover other islands across this beautiful country.
