The hotel

Infused with the charm of its sugar plantation past, this refined hotel retains its colonial style. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the hotel occupies a delightful setting in the Bel Ombre nature reserve, in a tropical garden through which the Citronniers River flows. Suites are spacious, decorated in 19th-century style but with an impressive range of amenities and a resident host at your service. The Seven Colours Spa is a serene haven, with treatments to harmonise body, mind and energy. There are two lovely pools including 1 adult-only heated pool (coming soon in November 2024), with access to an additional pool at C Beach Club, water sports in abundance and two nearby championship golf courses. Guests have access to 13 restaurants and eight bars across the Domaine de Bel Ombre — there's a wonderful selection of dining at Heritage Le Telfair, including Annabella’s on the banks of the river with an interactive show-kitchen, and Gin’Ja serving Pan Asian cuisine on the beach. Treat yourself to a meal at Le Chateau de Bel Ombre, an enchanting 19th-century manor house, or head to the trendy lifestyle hotspot, C Beach Club.

We returned to this exceptional hotel after 3 years to find that the overall experience for us was even better than before (which was just after it had reopened post Covid). Apart from the brilliant service and friendliness from all the staff, to our delight there was a peaceful adults only area, with a heated pool, where, if you pressed a button on your parasol, you could expect a member of staff to come over and take your food or drinks order! Fantastic and totally relaxing. Buggy transfers to golf courses and restaurants generally worked very well, and the standard and variety of food and beverages was excellent. The rooms were extremely well kitted out and the bed was gloriously comfortable with regularly changed fine sheets. Golfers, should note if you are not a 12 handicap or below you will find the new golf course called La Reserve (which is very impressive with fabulous views), impossible unless you want to spend the day there and lose dozens of balls in the impenetrable deep lush grass rough! My advice is not to bother looking. The other course, Le Chateau, is a little easier and more suitable for sub 18 handicaps. Less capable players should stick to the very good par 3 course at Le Chateau. All courses were in excellent condition with lightening fast greens. Overall a great stay that gave us everything we wanted, and we have already booked to return Read less

We booked two rooms at Heritage Le Telfair through Agoda for a one-night stay on 17th May. As our booking was on a bed and breakfast basis, we wanted to upgrade to half board. Following Agoda’s advice, we contacted the hotel using the hotel email provided — but never received a reply. We then tried reaching out to the General Manager via LinkedIn (message was read but ignored) and made multiple phone calls to the hotel on the number given by agoda. Each time, the call was transferred and then cut off. Only after insisting to speak to a supervisor on our fifth attempt were we informed that many staff were working remotely, which was causing the confusion. Morever we were told this hotel has no agreement with Agda. We were then told that the best option would be to upgrade upon check-in. When we arrived at the hotel around 4 PM, our luggage was mistakenly sent to another room and only returned to us nearly an hour later — just 15 minutes before sunset, which we had been hoping to enjoy. The room we were given was directly in front of a leaking pressure pump, which not only made loud, inconsistent noises all night but was also spilling water all night. We barely managed any rest, finally falling asleep around 5 AM. To make matters worse, the next morning the hotel began repair works to fix the leak — including tree cutting with a chainsaw and constant hammering — starting at 9 AM, right outside our room and all day till we left. For a property that promotes itself as a 5-star luxury resort, this experience was deeply disappointing. Poor communication, avoidable logistical errors, and a completely disruptive environment made our stay more stressful than restful. Sadly, this stay did not reflect the quality or service one would expect from a resort of this calibre. I cannot recommend it based on our experience. Read less

Awful - a disgrace to Mauritius and the small luxury hotels group. Absolutely no customer service, filthy tables and dirty plates everywhere, screaming and shouting from adults and children, beach villas anything but private. Just a disaster of a resort, poorly managed, that relies on the spectacular location.

On our first holiday to Mauritius, we walked past this hotel and knew we had to come back to the beautiful Heritage Le Telfair. It's a beautiful hotel that everyone should experience. As always, it's the people who make the difference, and this is especially true here — everyone is helpful, smiling and friendly. It's the little things that matter, and we were very lucky to have Mendini as our maid. She was always smiling, the room was always perfectly clean, everything was always replenished, and she was always willing to help us. And of course there was our hostess, Heena, who took care of us throughout our stay. At Heritage, you always have a host who gives you individual attention throughout your stay, and we were fortunate to have Heena. She arranged everything, even the impossible — such as bookings at our favourite restaurants when it seemed impossible. If you want an unforgettable holiday in beautiful Mauritius, don't hesitate — we highly recommend it! Read less

I recently had the misfortune of staying at Heritage Le Telfair and I can say without hesitation that it was one of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve ever endured. From start to finish, the visit was a complete disappointment—and shockingly below the standards one would expect from a hotel affiliated with Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Let’s begin with the cleanliness, or rather, the complete lack of it. The room was dusty, surfaces were sticky, and the bathroom looked like it hadn’t been properly cleaned. Towels were stained, and the sheets were questionable at best. For a hotel that claims to offer luxury, this was entirely unacceptable. The food was equally appalling—bland, overpriced, and clearly not fresh. Breakfast, which should be a highlight at any high-end hotel, was a sad selection of underwhelming options served with a side of indifference. And then there’s the service, which was, in a word, disastrous. From check-in to departure, the staff seemed irritated by even the most basic requests. Politeness and professionalism were nowhere to be found, and on several occasions, we were spoken to in a dismissive or outright hostile manner. It felt as if guests were an inconvenience rather than the reason for the hotel’s existence. This establishment does not belong in the Small Luxury Hotels of the World portfolio. It misrepresents what that label stands for—excellence, character, and a high standard of hospitality. Heritage Le Telfair was the antithesis of luxury, and I strongly urge SLH to reconsider its association with this property. Travelers looking for a refined, comfortable, and respectful stay should avoid this hotel entirely. It was an embarrassment, and I regret every penny spent there. Read less
