The hotel

A secluded resort with rich heritage and stunning beachfront views that’s ideal for both romantic getaways and fun-filled family trips. If peace and serenity is what you’re after, book a room in the Nirvana wing; a peaceful haven for adults-only, featuring a private pool, bar and intimate beach area. You’ll even receive a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival to toast on the balcony, the perfect way to kick off a relaxing holiday. If you have got the kids in tow, they’ll love the activities on offer at the kids club with water-gun fights, crab hunting and outdoor cinema being just some of what’s on offer. Whilst it will be hard to tear yourself away from the glittering infinity pool, be sure to book one of the many excursions on offer and explore the northern islands and Grand Baie – the concierge will help you to arrange a trip that meets your desires. When you return you’ll have a hard time deciding where to dine for the evening; Jade is the newest restaurant at the hotel, offering a gateaway to the finest flavours of the East, with some fantastic sake pairings to go with.

I visited one of the resort’s best restaurants, Kumin Indian Restaurant, and both the service and the food were excellent especially thanks to the restaurant manager, Loveraj, who went above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience.

July 28 - August 8, 2025 Staying at the hotel during winter (end of July – beginning of August) was clearly a mistake. Most activities revolve around the sea, which isn’t ideal this time of year, and the hotel offers very few alternatives. The lack of atmosphere or energy made for a dull experience. Some things also felt borderline misleading. The “free” chakra consultation? It’s only free after you’ve booked a paid massage. Leaving the hotel isn’t straightforward either—you’re required to use the hotel taxi service, which charges about 30% more than regular taxis. If you don’t have cash and the hotel pays on your behalf, they add another 15% fee—despite these taxis working exclusively for the hotel. Meanwhile, regular taxis are actively turned away. Food was average at best, you’ll find far better meals (at lower prices) in the malls. And if you’re not paying attention, you might even be charged twice or be chased as you’re trying to resolve it at reception where you’ve paid before entering the restaurant. The rum at the hotel bar? One shot costs as much as a full bottle at the supermarket. After my complaints, the hotel did make a sincere effort to turn things around for me personally. I truly appreciated these gestures—they did make the evening before checkout more enjoyable. However, these efforts should not be limited to a single unhappy guest. With better internal communication, many of the issues I experienced could be prevented in the first place, ensuring all guests have a consistently positive stay. The location itself is stunning, and if your plan is to simply lie on the beach and do nothing—in winter—this could work. But if you’re looking for a balanced, enriching holiday experience, this isn’t it. Read less
