Just had a wonderful vacation at Le Meridien Ile Mauritius. If you want a short summary.....we can say that after 40 years of global travel for business and pleasure, this hotel - its location, facilities, the approach of the employees and simply the overall experience - Le Meridien Ile Maurice is in our Top 5 hotels to visit. We always have high expectations for a great stay at the Marriott Group, but everything about this specific location is above and beyond, defining excellence !
From the moment you walk through the door, the staff could not be more welcoming, starting with a super refreshing island welcome drink. Through our extensive travel, we have a pretty good idea for when the culture of the staff and morale is high - at Le Meridien Ile Mauritius, our sense is that this is second to none… and it shines through in the approach to guests…. every member of staff is super helpful, caring and always demonstrating the beautiful Mauritian culture while upholding the Marriott Group standards of excellence.
At this hotel you will find attention to detail is the norm - in both service and in presentation of the hotel every day. The beach - literally on the property for the full length of the hotel - (you walk out of your room and in a few short steps you are on the beach) is wonderfully clean and raked every day, the chairs all positioned and cleaned; the towels rolled and stacked; the beach and pool bars prepared...detail to the extreme. At one or two of the 3 pools, there may be music playing but it is kept low key and appropriate. This is a great hotel for families or adults only : a calm hotel for a relaxing time.
That said, plenty of activities if you wish to take part - from water sports, the glass bottomed boat , to onsite archery and tennis. All excellent and new or well kept facilities. There are daily activities to join in if you wish - from power walking to cooking classes ( these are fun and demonstrated by a Mauritian chef with recipes to cook back at home. Great family fun). Evening entertainment and live music for the sunset.
We were lucky enough to be staying at the hotel during National Day, and the hotel laid on a whole range of celebrations throughout the day.
The Bedrooms are excellent- many different types but all sizeable and well equipped. Super comfortable. We would recommend the ground floor with walk out deck area (these are called Beach Bliss rooms) These are simply superb with a few metres walk to the restaurants , beaches and pools. However, those rooms on the upper floors with balconies are equally great.
Super restaurants and choices. We were on a half board package ( there are many options from room only etc). The daily breakfast buffet is amazing - from wonderfully freshly cooked egg stations, local dishes, beautiful fresh fruit and pastries. More broadly, there are many other restaurant choices on site. Waves restaurant is super - literally on the waves of the Indian Ocean. Start there with a nightly cocktail as the sun sets , followed by a wonderful à la carte menu. Local fresh fish and seafood is amazing. There are theme nights - beach bbq one night and another a lobster night - all optional depending on what you fancy. Alternatively, there is the nightly buffet - though I say buffet, I don’t think the word does it justice. Again, one of best and broadest choice of food in any hotel I have seen. The theme changes each night so the variety during our stay was significant. If you fancy a more traditional Indian meal, then the restaurant Kumin is wonderful - authentic Indian food. Jade completes the restaurant lineup with a combo of sushi and smaller med plates but also offering the teppanyaki grill.
All the staff are amazing, but we want to call out a couple who seem to go above and beyond on every customer interaction they have.
Jaya - at guest relations; we have never known a person who could not be performing the title of her job any better. She cannot do enough for you in anything you need, and anticipating the needs. Superb !
Nilani - wow she works with such energy. At Waves ensuring the experience you have there is brilliant every time; and in the breakfast buffet in the mornings. Every customer treated individually to make their experience simply the best.
Nivis - at Waves, brings theatre to the dining table with his flaming of the baked Alaska. He is so good at it ! A must see !
We cannot recommend Le Meridien Ile Maurice enough. We will be returning as soon as we can ! It's a fabulous hotel with a great spirit ...and is a wonderful credit to the ethos of Marriott.
Thank you to the team for a brilliant vacation !
