On our last night we were woken by music so loud our room was shaking - is this acceptable? Read less

On arrival, early afternoon, following an overnight flight the welcome was excellent for the six of us. Welcome drink, cold towels and luggage taken to our three nice rooms. All meals were fantastic and staff extremely helpful and friendly with prompt service for food and drinks. Only been there a few hours with Kumar, Ansy and Saif making us feel really welcome at the French Kiss Creole bar with rum cocktails. Found our beds turned down when we arrived back to the room end of evening. Singh, Speciality Chef, demonstrated the making of nan breads from the nan oven while you wait which was great to see with the food excellent and cooked in front of you at many live stations i.e. pasta, fish, Indian, meat etc. I recall reading one review that reported there was only one toilet block - I used five different ones whilst I was there. Another review stating cockroaches in rooms - I can only comment to state our three rooms had none. Special thanks to Avneesh Goodar (Sports Entertainment Manager) who made us all feel welcome especially by setting us up to watch a special home football match in the cinema and also giving us a good hiding on the Padel court. Good Points: 1. Adults Pool Area & French Kiss bar area – So relaxing with its own beach and pool to choose from and well looked after by Kumar, Ansh and Saif. 2. Creole Smokehouse restaurant & BBs restaurant – Both lovely food and service. Eating outdoors at the Creole Smokehouse in the evening was also fantastic and no concern with insect bites even though eating amongst the Banyan trees. Both are very close to the adults pool & beach. 3. Other restaurants visited - The Palm Court, Bodrum Blue, Beach Rouge – All excellent. Both Breakfast and evening meals excellent with a wide choice. 4. Gym - Excellent and in great condition with Technogym equipment 5. Other facilities used - Tennis, Padel court, table tennis, cinema – All excellent. Not so Good: We did experience some flies at breakfast on the first few days but this did improve as the holiday went on perhaps by sitting where the air flow was better. We did request a couple of small fans to be put on our table which helped a lot. Suggest the hotel make mini fans more readily available for guests at breakfast to put on tables. Ales - Selection of ales on draught limited to just one i.e. Phoenix beer. Normally a second option of Manawa beer is available but not at all whilst we were there. I remember Lux Belle Mare last year had a selection of six on draught, so not sure why this is not a default for all LUX Mauritius hotels. A choice of just Phoenix was a shame. Water Sports – Snorkeling trip, wakeboarding, skiing, sailing cancelled most days as too windy. At best these sports would operate for around 2hr/day at high tide. With so much cancelled every day for the six of us it would have been nice if the boat house offered a short fishing trip or to visit a local island rather than quoting for more money! (Ruddy did offer a speed boat ride but this was literally as we were about to depart from the hotel at the end of our hols). Rushing to breakfast to get to the boat house for the 10:00am snorkeling to then find out this was cancelled along with skiing/wakeboarding/sailing was not good, shame decision can’t be made earlier. I think the above motorized water sports and sailing operated for two days out of the nine day holiday. Howeveer, pedelo, kayaking, paddle board was all available every day. Swimming – The water is not clear in comparison to when we took a taxi to the North west coast beaches i.e. Trou aux Biches, Mont Choisy, Grand Baie, Pereybere, Cap Malheureux. However, being a small bay there is no current and so very nice for swimming, kayaking etc. Music - Bodrum restaurant music – small point but the bass often travels down the main beach & even reaching the room balcony. Palm Court Cutlery – Most of the tables are set by excluding desert spoons so you need to ask for one for desert which I thought was very odd. Bodrum Blue restaurant closed one day - Thurs 15th May with no prior notice for building works to take place including electric saw kicking in most of the day. Air conditioning - loud noise when fan kicked it sounded like a lawn mower starting up in one of our three rooms that required three fault calls before resolved. This made sleeping during the first few night not easy until resolved. Walks: For info - A nice 3mile round trip walk into Grand Gaube. Turn left out the hotel gate, along the pavement into Grand Gaube, past the police station, turn left for the Grand Gaube church, then left down to the beach, turn left along the beach to the hotel main gate. Cap Malheureux (4miles west from hotel) is a nice place to visit with the church and fish/lobster BBQ taking place I understand every lunch time. Too many names to mention but thanks to: Adults Pool Area/French Kiss Bar – Kumar, Ansh, Saif - Outstanding customer service from from Day 1 to Day 10. Rooms: Jessica – who kept our room looking great every day. Porter: Arneaux - very helpful for information Maintenance: Anas - helpful with sorting air conditioning noise Beach: Chiraq Restaurant: Jason - really nice table service, consistently efficient Ashwan - as above, very helpful, polite Purgan - very helpful Varun - great service Singh (Speciality Chef) Bodrum Blue (Turkish): MAHANDRA - Great service (Man United supporter) Vinesh, Ashvan Sports Gym Desk: Manishka Life Guard: Amit Read less
