The hotel

As the Mauritian drinks cart rolls up to serve you cooling cocktails, while you sink your feet into the white sands of Belle Mare beach after a dip in its turquoise lagoon, you’ll know you’ve arrived in paradise. In fact, it’s so jaw-droppingly gorgeous here, they’ve now reserved Sunrise Attitude exclusively for grownups. As much as you could spend every waking moment on the beach, there’s plenty more fun in store – whether you want to linger at the seaside with snorkelling and scuba diving on offer, or you prefer swimming in one of the two swimming pools instead. However, it’s the authentic touches that really make this Adults Only retreat unforgettable, from the island-inspired treatments at Spa Poz to once-in-a-lifetime cultural Otentik experiences like dining with islanders in their homes, and learning to make Mauritian curries with their local chef.

We had a deeply disappointing experience during our two-week stay at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the staff was poorly organized and unwelcoming, especially when they realized we were not on the all-inclusive package. Any time we dined at the on-site restaurants or inquired about services, we were met with dismissive attitudes and, in several cases, outright rudeness. Despite being promised an induction tour to familiarize ourselves with the facilities, this never happened. We had to spend an entire week figuring out basic information that should have been provided upfront—such as the locations of amenities, dining hours, and activity schedules. There were no clear signs or printed information available. It felt like essential details were kept hidden unless you specifically asked, and even then, the responses were often unhelpful or curt. There were coffee press , kettles in room but no coffee or tea bags and weren't told where we'll get those. Communication around daily activities was equally lacking. We only found out about scheduled events if we happened to be near the pool at the right time, where staff would occasionally announce them. Otherwise, we were left completely in the dark. Shockingly, we discovered the existence of a second pool purely by chance during a walk around the premises—something that should have been mentioned during a welcome tour or at check-in. We also noticed other guests being given group orientations, yet no one ever informed us about these sessions in English or when they were held. This lack of communication made our stay feel isolating and confusing. Beach access was another aspect we had to figure out on our own, with no signage or guidance from staff. While some of the male staff members were kind and tried to help when approached, a number of kitchen and Waiter female staff members were noticeably unfriendly—often responding to simple questions with eye-rolling or dismissive behavior. The female staff constantly refered my husband as my boyfriend - not even once asked, and when I corrected them I was dismissed and ignored. This is absolutely outrageous. We even told them we are on our honeymoon. Overall, our stay was far below expectations. For a hotel that markets itself as a welcoming and inclusive destination, the lack of basic hospitality and communication was unacceptable. We would not return and cannot recommend this hotel to others—especially those who are not opting for the all-inclusive package. Read less

Poorly organised experience. Rude staff. No menus or pricings available. Complicated ways of doing things with no information provided to us. Felt like a job just to try to relax. Advertised as having 4 restaurants. But only has 1 restaurant.

Absolutely fantastic! Staff are lovely and give you all the attention you need. Would recommend Otentik dinner at Navin. Food was amazing. An experience to remember, lots of fun. Thank you Navin and your family for making us all feel welcome in your home and for sharing your traditions with us. We would recommend it to everyone 😘

Pros: We stayed at Sunrise Attitude from the 30th April for two weeks. The hotel is in a nice spot and the beach is just across a small road. The beach is beautiful and the sea lovely. We took long walks along the beach. The staff are so friendly and always smiling and welcoming. Our room was cleaned every day, our maid was lovely and always asked if there was anything else she could do for us. We ate in the Social House, which has to be booked, a couple of times and really enjoyed it. There are two pools at the hotel, a bigger one and a smaller one. Get up early to grab a sunbed, we never managed to get one around the bigger pool, as towels were down on all beds very early. Mauritius is a beautiful place, a piece of paradise. Cons: The hotel room is very small compared to other hotels we have stayed at around the world. We arrived mid afternoon after a long journey and wanted to shower before dinner. We had no hot water in our room, we complained at reception and later that evening the manager came and found us. He did offer us an upgrade a week later to a partial sea view room, which we turned down, as we did not feel like packing up and moving and unpacking. He also offered us a place to shower, but it was late and we were so tired and just wanted to go to bed. The water was fixed by the following afternoon. Very slow service at the bar, some days just one member of staff and a queue of people waiting to be served. The buffet was not great, same food nearly every day and lukewarm. No tomatoes or onions at the salad bar. Very rarely find a teaspoon or a cup in the morning at breakfast. No bowls for cereal, waited around for ages while they went and washed some and brought them back. Our biggest concern involved a young lady who was extremely drunk and kept falling over around the pool area. She was also in the pool, she got out on one occasion and was falling around. She fell to the floor again, my husband and a couple we met went over to help her. It took four of them to get her off the floor and onto a sunbed. One of the ladies we met approached the Manager and we were shocked with what he said, I quote “ She is just a day guest and not our responsibility “ We were all totally shocked at his attitude. She was on his premises and was definitely the hotel’s responsibility. The staff should have stopped serving her alcohol. This situation could have been so much worse and the young girl could have ended up seriously hurt or worse. We would probably not go back to Mauritius, purely because there are so many other places in the world to visit. But if we did we would not stay at the Sunrise Attitude again. Read less

Location - On the stunning East Coast Belle Mare beach with a very long beach backed by lovely trees. Note there is a small but busy road between the property and the beach. Beach was a mixture of very soft white sand, some sharp sand and coral. We felt beach shoes were not needed for our hour daily long walks just some care. Property - The setting was very pretty with very well maintained landscaping and attractive low rise buildings hidden well throughout with thatched roofs. Service - Excellent from all members of the team with special thanks to Mr Vicky for his warmth and personalised attention at every breakfast and lunch, Matasha for helping resolve snorkel trip issues and her positivity energy and engagement throughout, Chef Mohammed in the social house for his lovely food and welcoming manner, Anish for making our anniversary extra special and Sebastian,Lovena, Vidya, Reeya at both Market and Social, Dan at the Papaya bar and Snorkel Captain’s Dominique for his skills. Food - We really enjoyed the food. We chose buffet for most as we prefer a slower pace and small portions which is more difficult in a la carte. Breakfast yoghurt, seeds, fruits, brown bread and fresh eggs were especially good. Lunch fish and dahl were always excellent. The Mauritian favours overall were our favourite. Pastry and choux making skills excellent. Taba J crepes pm worth taking however area could be more in keeping with lovely landscaping elsewhere. Evening buffet at Market provided good variety. We felt better item labelling would help especially for those guests not used to Mauritian food. Activities - Snorkel boat was excellent, although there was only one trip a day which is often full. Glass bottom trip a good option if snorkel not your thing. Christoff Tai Chi class so brilliant we repeated it. Evening entertainment had some great acts especially Nina as both DJ and singer. Rooms - We had partial sea view room which we really enjoyed. Very light, spacious and comfortable with extra large bed and bathroom and attractive views of trees with very pretty sea glimpses through tropical trees. Thanks to housekeeping team for all as it was maintained very well although we felt woven mats were not great option to keep clean. Facilities - Spa which we didn’t use as it was fully booked apart from lunchtimes. Very small shop for essentials and a few gifts. Very helpful reception open whenever needed for queries and bookings. Eco - We were so pleased with the overall ethos on eco with products and water especially. We would like to see more effort on beach clean which we brought to staff attention and was then resolved by an improved clean each day. We felt the hotel needed the same attention to beach as to the pools and that was missing as one early morning presence isn’t enough. Overall - We found the holiday relaxing and especially appreciated our room, the long beach and the food. We would have preferred more water activity options and more snorkelling boat trips as we’ve had in other resorts here but understand the East coast winds make some options more difficult. A big thank you to the team for the huge task of clean up after the annual festival too. Thank you all the team and we would totally recommend for a relaxing hols. Read less
