The hotel

All-suite and all-inclusive, the Ravenala Attitude is styled in contemporary, colonial and tropical hues. With an open-plan, no boundaries design, the restaurants and bars flow seamlessly towards the pool, gardens and beach beyond. But it’s not all about appearances — it goes deeper. Its ‘Culinary Voyage’ takes you from Asia to Italy in nine restaurants, seven of which you can sample as part of your All-Inclusive package. You can tuck into 'Granmamas' Mauritian fare at Kot Nou, street-food takeaways on the beach at Taba-J, and enjoy the romance of the floating Riviera restaurant. The kids' clubs provide various fun activities, whilst the Sport Village and Boat House offer endless diversions, from kayaking along Rivière Citron to riverbank yoga. And the hotel's ‘Otentik’ concept gives you a true insight into Mauritius, in cookery classes, local music, a self-guided tours app, and a weekly ‘Otentik Bazar’, with all profits from the ‘made in Mauritius’ goodies going to the craftspeople. You can even dine on ‘Otentik Dinners’ with locals in their homes. This charming resort is great for families, with large rooms and a range of activities, whilst couples will love staying in the Executive Seafront Adult Suites in the adults-only section.

Having recently taken to TripAdvisor to eviscerate a boat operator I thought I'd write a review of where we stayed. And I now realise I have become one of those annoying people who write reviews on TripAdvisor. So, the Ravenala Attitude...; it was good verging on very good. We only stayed here as a substitute to our go-to spot Shandrani Beachcomber which was closed for renovations. So there were always going to be comparisons made. In summary it's not quite the all-singing all-dancing loveliness of Shandrani but it's a pretty close second. So Ravenala Attitude please take this as constructive criticism and I reckon with a few tweaks you'll be giving the Beachcombers a run for their money. 1) The room was super spacious and airy with a mezzanine level for the kids, we loved the whole set up of this. The bed was more comfortable than my own at home and the pillows were spot-on - many hotels seem have major problems providing useable pillows but these were perfect so well done! Minor gripes were the air conditioner which worked beautifully and was super quiet but unfortunately the condensation drain appeared to be leaking leading to sporadic dripping of water onto the bedside table. I should really have reported earlier but only did so on leaving as it was easier just to lay down a spare towel... But a very minor issue which can easily be fixed. The flooring in the entrance area of the room was a touch on the tired side as was some of the bathroom and could do with replacing. 2) We only ate in the Mosaik buffet as our kids have somewhat basic tastes so unfortunately we didn't experience any of the other six (?) restaurants. The food was very good, the only issue was that that there seems to a problem keeping some of the food hot with the buffet set up so as result a lot of the dishes were lukewarm or almost cold. It didn't bother me really but it seems like an easy hit to get that sorted out and you've got an excellent buffet which would be envy of many a resort. Again some of the flooring and furnishings in the buffet area have passed their useful lifespan and could do with replacement and updating. 3) Staff uniforms: This seems a bit loose, any white top you can find and jeans and sneakers of many varieties. So not really a uniform. And the name badges look a bit cheap and home made. My suggestion would be newer shinier name badges, a standard white shirt (and jumper for when it's cold) and black trousers of your choosing. And have spares available so that when a clumsy tourist splashes their spag bol sauce over you you can get clean top. A lot of the white shirts in use seemed to be wearing a few days worth of stains. Again a minor issue and the staff were super lovely, friendly and efficient so it would just add to their already existing professionalism for them to have a nice uniform uniform. 4) That's it for petty gripes, but they are stuff that get you the extra few percent to greatness. I'll add at this point that the pool area, the bar next to the pool and the beach with its couple of bars are all awesome, really well done out and are the highlight of this resort. 5) Oh, and lastly, full credit to this hotel for warning you not to buy boat trips from beach vendors. Unfortunately we didn't take their advice and we really wish that we had but that's a story for another review... So go get 'em Ravenala Attitide!! Read less

I spent 2 nights here, self driving and self booked. This hotel is not at all setup for independent travelers. Upon arrival they were adamant that I provide them with my booking voucher, travel agency and departing flight details. No matter how many times I explained that I self booked and would be driving myself to the airport they couldn't wrap their heads around that concept. The property is huge, yet has maybe 15 parking spaces on the property, and then a sketchy dirt lot off property (a solid 15 minute walk) with more parking. Clearly if you have a driver, this is irrelevant, but if you self drive, its annoying. My room/suite was actually pretty nice, but very very far from everything (another 10 minute walk). The bed was comfy, AC worked well, plenty of hot water. Wifi was mostly ok, although it was down for hours the first night. There were a few ants in the bathroom, some peeling paint above the bath, and water damage around the floor. Staff were fine, but very clearly going through the motions, and could not care less about guests. My only significant complaint was the food. Both breakfast & dinner were included in my rate. The buffet (Mozaik) is the default for all guests. While its theoretically possible to eat at one of the other restaurants on the property, they all require advanced booking, which seems to be impossible without many days of planning. I tried to book anywhere for my 2nd dinner, and nothing was available. This wouldn't be that bad, but the buffet is aggressively awful. Its some of the most bland, tasteless, institutional quality food I've ever had. Just about every item (and I tried so many, desperately hoping to find anything with flavor) was bland, bordering on tasteless. It also didn't even look good, which wasn't helped by huge heat lamps giving the food an unnatural orange color. It takes true culinary incompetence to make Indian food tasteless & unappetizing. Definitely would not return. Read less

From the moment we arrived at the Ravenala Attitude, we were embraced by the sense of warmth that felt both personal and genuine. The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxing - perfectly suited for our private celebration and moments of quiet reflection. Ravenala Attitude was incredible, and I couldn't have done it without the incredible team! Huge thanks to Marie, Lea, Shardha, JD, Sylvana, DJ Selwyn, and other members of the hotel. They worked effortlessly to make sure that my Mauritius trip was spectacular. Every step of the planning and execution was flawless. 🌟Event Manager Extraordinaire - Jean Daniel Ross (JD) 🎉 JD was more than an event manager - he was the heartbeat of our experience. Attentive, cheerful, and incredibly thoughtful, he didn't just meet expectations, he anticipated them. From making sure each guest felt special to ensuring I had everything I needed. JD catered to us with such grace and enthusiasm. From our Sunday devotional, thoughtfully arranged in a serene conference room, to the elegantly private party setup, and for arranging beach towel loans for my guests on the day of the cruise, every element was executed with care under the guidance of our brilliant event manager, JD. He didn't just manage the event - he elevated it. I felt nothing short of royalty. My guests still can't stop raving about his energy and charm. Every interaction felt personal, and his joyful presence elevated the entire celebration. Thank you, JD, for being the heartbeat of the celebration, You are a class act! #EventLegend #Gratitude #MauritiusMagic #JDTheVisionExecutor 😎The Marvel That Is Marie Duval Latreille 🍾 My guests couldn't stop raving about their rooms - beautifully appointed and welcoming - thanks to Marie, our Account Executive. A powerhouse who never once saw my evolving plans and guest requests as burdens - but as chances to rise. She worked hand-in-hand with Lea and Shardha to create a celebration that didn't just impress - it dazzled. Every detail was executed with thoughtfulness and flair, and because of her, I walked through this experience feeling like the envy of all. Every unforgettable journey has a steady compass, and for mine, that was Marie. Her coordination was the heartbeat behind the comfort and flow of our stay - quietly effective and full of grace. Marie, thank you for your kindness, strength, and can-do spirit. You didn't just made things happen - you made memories I'II carry for a lifetime. #Gratitude #HospitalityQueen #PlanningWithHeart #CelebrationDreamTeam 🌟Wellness Curator & Joy Catalyst - Sylvana 💃 The spa team, led by Sylvana, offered not just treatments but soulful moments - complete with Sega dancing that lifted every spirit. The staff attentiveness and grace made everything flow with ease. In house, DJ Selwyn was fantastic - adapted to our music preferences, and kept the vibe joyful. An immersive, heartfelt experience. This wasn't just a spa experience - it was a full-hearted experience. My guests were blown away by the experience especially the first timers. The food was delicious😋 and the ambiance was excellent. One I'II carry with deep gratitude. Thank you, Sylvana for the relaxation and tranquility. #WellnessWithSylvana #TranquilityCurated #HealingHandsMauritius Suggestions for Improvements: While our experience was overwhelmingly positive, a few areas for improvement could enhance future stays. Expanding the variety of menu selections - particularly with more balanced seasoning - would enrich the culinary experience. Additionally, a consistent emphasis on warm, responsive customer service across the staff touchpoints would help every guest feel fully seen and supported. I shared these reflections directly with Alessandro, the General Manager, whose openness and grace in receiving feedback were genuinely appreciated. These reflections come from a place of deep appreciation for the care and creativity that shaped our stay. The memories we took with us - from the laughter to the lilac sunsets - were made possible by a team that clearly leads with heart. Thank you for making us feel not just welcomed, but celebrated. We stayed 10 days at this resort and were very impressed. I think the 4 star rating is accurate of the experience. The food is very nice - well presented, delicious and a wide range of choice. The surroundings are beautiful. The room was large. The staff are very attentive and couldn’t do more for you. The range of activities is also very good. The aqua gym, the stretch classes and yoga were all very good. The packed lunches were very good if you are going on a trip. The guys at the boathouse were great and helpful. We enjoyed the pedalo’s and kayaks. We booked the restaurants first thing and got in everywhere for all days apart from the first night. No restaurant is fully booked though so not sure why it’s not always possible to get a table. We ate in either the Bistro or O for lunch and we very much enjoyed this. There were a few negative experiences which is why I’ve not rated this as 5 star. Smoking - there are several smoking areas around the property. However, smokers and vapers seem to think it’s ok to smoke wherever they want. This includes next to the area when doing yoga, inside the pool bar and next to where people eat (the food vans on the beach). I felt like I was constantly breathing in cigarette smoke rather than clean tropical air. The food vans on the beach served the same food daily and the menu on the website does not match what was being served. For example, there was no food bowls as displayed on the website. The toiletries in the rooms were not topped up once on our 10 day stay. On our last night we had to get someone out to top up. It would have been nice to have had a bath during the trip but it didn’t look like it had been cleaned between the stays so opted for showers only. I also cleaned my retainer on our first night using a cup, which was not once replaced during our stay. There were times when some food and drink items were not available. This include items you’d expect to have at a resort (e.g ice cream). We ate in the Bistro 3 nights and on 2 occasions our orders were not quite right with side dishes missing. Our last lunch there was also the worst customer service we have ever experienced. See below. I think the differentiation between half board, all inclusive etc needs to be looked at. Very inconsistent. Sometimes you’re asked for room numbers and sometimes you’re not. Sometimes you need to sign and others you’re ok to walk away. The wildlife around the buffet made me a bit uncomfortable. My partner ending up getting bird poo on his top as birds rest above the tables on fixtures. We also witnessed a bird going into a toaster to get breadcrumbs. Our final meal was absolute carnage which was a shame as it’s our last experience of the hotel. Drinks did not arrive. An hour and a half for a salad, panini and ice cream. In the end I had to go get my own drink from the pool bar, and we had to remind the team about our dessert. They only had mayo which someone had already used. Overall I would recommend the hotel, I just thing some greater attention to detail is needed with the cleanliness and the service, and it would be more pleasant to segregate smoking and non-smoking areas. Our last couple of holidays have been cruises and there are only certain areas you can smoke and it is enforced. Read less

We came to this hotel to get married and it was the most amazing day. (and holiday) Vanisha is the most amazing events organiser ever. She is so organised, kept in touch and sorted every little detail out. Everything was amazing from the flowers to the set up in Riviera restaurant. This hotel is the perfect setting for a beach wedding. We would really recommend it, we loved every moment. Thank you to Vanisha, Emily and the rest of the team for making our day so perfect! From the drinks reception on the beach after the ceremony to the meal and dj, we were all so well looked after. The hotel overall was fantastic. All the a La carte restaurants were really good, especially O and Madam Ming. The buffet was nice- the food was tasty and the chefs were lovely but a lot of the wait staff there weren’t that helpful- didn’t seem bothered when all the coffee machines were down, didn’t seem to be bothered about clearing the tables for the next guests at busy times but other than that all the other staff were encountered were so friendly and helpful providing great service. Taba J food truck is amazing too, we really loved the tandoori chicken wrap. There are free glass bottom boat trips you can do from the boat house- you have to book and there is a great kids play area and kids club. The swimming pools are great sizes. My favourite part of the resort was the beach area. The water was so calm and it was just so peaceful and beautiful. Would recommend this hotel especially for a wedding. Mauritius is such a beautiful place. Read less
