The hotel

Overlooking the beautiful bay of Grand Baie, the Veranda Grand Baie Hotel & Spa is bursting with Creole charm and is ideally located for exploring the nearby restaurants, bars and shops. All rooms have been sumptuously decorated with cool, soothing tones and are dotted amongst the grounds. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink from your private balcony or terrace, admiring stunning views of the surrounding gardens or swimming pool. Water sports are, of course, in ample supply. Windsurfing, kayaking, snorkelling and pedal boats are complimentary, as is a glass-bottom boat ride so you can admire life below the waves without getting wet! Pay a bit extra and you can join PADI qualified instructors on diving expeditions and set sail on the resorts catamaran for an exciting excursion. The Kids & Teens kiosk will keep little ones entertained with a whole range of exciting activities. There’s also the delightful Seven Colours Spa should a spot of pampering, well-deserved no doubt, appeal. Le Food Comptoir serves a delicious range of local dishes as well as more international favourites. Lazy Lobster, set right beside the ocean, is more suited to special occasions, taking you on a culinary journey you’ll never forget.

We stayed at Veranda Grand Baie for 11 nights early July. The hotel is in the North of the island, between 1h and 1.5h journey from the airport. We arrived off a 12 hour flight early morning knowing we would likely have to wait for our room however thankfully they were able to show us to our room immediately 😌 which we were very thankful for. Our room (800) was a comfort family room, at the back of the resort. It comprised of main bedroom (with very comfortable super king bed) walk in wardrobe, a small space where we kept our snacks / drinks (we called it the kitchen) but it Only had a mini fridge and work top (no actual cooking facilities) second small bedroom with sofa bed (suitable for 2 small children or in our case 1 teen) and a bathroom with walk in shower and a large terrace overlooking the gardens. Overall the room was comfortable, well equipped, cleaned daily. The resort itself is small, however this offers a personalised stay and allows the staff to learn guest names / preferences etc. All the staff were excellent, super attentive, chatty, smiley, helpful and are a credit to the hotel. Special mention to - Ajay Darren Krishana Jerome Ashvin Ravi Cindy Who always went out their way to ensure we were having a wonderful holiday. The breakfast buffet was excellent with cooked / continental / pastries etc. A la cart lunch was basic (pizzas, burgers, sandwiches) but decent. Evening buffet was tasty, we never failed to have a good meal, however it could be more varied. We ate at their a la cart restaurant for lunch and dinner a couple of times (selected options available on all inclusive) and whilst the setting is lovely, we were not overly impressed so stuck to the buffet for much of the stay. Hotel location is excellent offering a short walk Into Grand Baie with an array of bars / shops / restaurants etc, great for those not wishing to be confined to a resort and want to explore a little. One note - hotel is in very close proximity to a night club which goes on till 6am Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. I would recommend requesting a room closer to the front of the resort for this reason. Thankfully we're heavy sleepers so it didn't bother us too much, but would likely bother many. Read less

We spent a lot of time in the Beach Bar in the evenings service was great but as the hotel got busier service did decline. On the whole the vibe of the hotel was great and in an amazing location with private beach area. We went on the glass bottom boat and would definitely recommend . Read less

We really enjoyed our trip at Veranda Grand Baie. The reception was extremely warm and welcoming, with staff providing us a tour of the hotel, facilities and activities list. The restaurant provided a wide selection of Mauritian cuisine which changed every day. The chef, waiters and other staff members were always on hand to support with our requests and questions. We were also lucky enough to dine in the lobster restaurant and receive 5 star treatment. Even when requesting to not have alcohol with our food - due to religious reasons - they were happy to accommodate. We stayed in the privilege room which had a lovely outdoor shower, creole chic, rustic furniture and a soft, comfy bed. The hotel also features a small beach with picturesque views of the Grand Baie harbour and immersive experience into the endemic and other species known in Mauritius. There is a cute boutique on site which has a variety of different items on offer and lovely sales attendant Varsha who is polite, friendly and knowledgeable. My only suggestions for the stay would be to include a mirror in the boutique, have a clothes drying rail in the hotel room and a bigger fridge. It also be nice to have some information about the village of Grand Baie and the story of the North. As a Mauritian I am extremely impressed with the authentic vibes emulated throughout the resort. It’s lovely to stay in a place which retains and takes pride in our culture. The location is great, being beside La Cuivette, close to Pereybere, Mon Choisy and Cap Malheureux. There are also a variety of local shopping places such as the Grand Baie Bazaar, Super U and Sunset Boulevard. Read less
