We have stayed at many holiday hotels in the past 15 years in the UAE, for the most part they are all good , however, our first visit here was exceptional , the service and cleanliness is first class. The restaurant staff are all very polite, in particular the Reunion , where we ate three times, food was terrific and the attention to detail was to be congratulated. The hotel and grounds are so spacious fabulous pools with a huge seafront . One word to the Manager some of the steps around the hotel had broken lights. We will certainly return !!

“A Frustrating and Chaotic Stay at Sofitel Al Hamra Beach Resort”

As a Platinum Accor member, I had high expectations for my stay at Sofitel Al Hamra Beach Resort. Unfortunately, the experience was far below the standard expected of the Sofitel brand. The Club Lounge – Closed Without Proper Notice I booked a Prestige One-Bedroom Suite with Club Access, expecting the serenity and service associated with Sofitel lounges. Upon arrival, I was informed that the Club was not operational and that all benefits (breakfast, afternoon tea, aperitif, and drinks) were served in the main restaurant or the hotel lobby. The staff, including the very kind and hardworking Rahel and his team, were clearly overwhelmed. Waiting over 20 minutes for basic lounge items became the norm, and the experience was far from what was promised under “Club Sofitel.” Room Issues and a Long Night The one-bedroom suite, advertised as suitable for two adults and up to three children, had only one bed and no convertible sofa. We discovered this at bedtime, leading to nearly two hours of discussion with several managers and the very helpful Mario at the front desk. Eventually, we were moved to another suite — located at the far end of the hotel grounds, on the border with the neighbouring hotel — far from the main building we had originally booked. Unfortunately, the A/C in the new suite’s bedroom was not working, requiring engineers to intervene. Repairs ended around 11:30 PM — not exactly a relaxing evening for a family stay. Saturday Night Noise To make matters worse, on Saturday night, a very loud Russian birthday party took place at the adjacent property. The music was so intense that we could not use our balcony or even enjoy quiet in our suite. It was particularly frustrating given that we had booked a suite in the main building, but had been moved to the very end of the resort, directly exposed to this disturbance. Pool and Facilities The famous lagoon pool was extremely dirty, with water that looked like sewage, making it unusable. The next day, the children’s pool descended into chaos as a group of unsupervised teenagers overran the area, frightening the younger kids. It took three lifeguards and eventually a pool closure to restore order. Even the lifeguards admitted their limited authority to control such situations — disappointing for a family resort. Deposit Policy Confusion The hotel’s deposit policy was another unpleasant surprise. Although described as a hold for incidentals, in reality, it covers the room plus extras, meaning your limit is quickly reached after a single meal or drink. This led to a manager arriving at the pool with an invoice, blocking us from ordering further until payment was made. A humiliating and unnecessary scene for any guest, let alone a loyal Accor Platinum member. The Bright Spots Despite all this, a few staff members deserve sincere appreciation: • Mr. Tarun, for his kind assistance with the food arrangements linked to the “lounge.” • Festus, for his tireless multitasking — from luggage to buggies — always with a smile. On a positive note, the pool areas are well-designed, and the food at Waka was superb. Final Thoughts Our stay was, sadly, more stressful than relaxing. Between operational confusion, multiple relocations, inadequate communication, and sleepless nights, the experience simply did not meet Sofitel’s standards. The property itself has great potential, but it is currently undermined by weak management, unclear procedures, and poor guest communication. I would not recommend it.
