If you are disabled, or even if you aren't, you need to take note of a serious deficiency at this establishment. After 9pm, "for security reasons" as they explained to me when I questioned them at the front desk as to why they do this, THEY LOCK OUT THEIR GUESTS FROM THE ENTRANCES OTHER THAN THE MAIN LOBBY !!!! My wife and I returned at around 11pm from an outing at a nearby city. I have a serious lung issue, and as such, it is difficult for me to walk long distances, especially carrying a cooler from the car, as I was tonight. When we pulled into the lot, we found the handicap spaces near the main lobby door full. We then drove around the whole building to the rear where we found more handicap spaces, near the breakfast area which is near the main lobby and the elevator. We parked there glad to have found a space near the elevator. To our surprise, both of our room keys failed to unlock the door. We then walked half way around the building and found another door. Again our room keys failed to unlock the door. We then saw a man in the pool area through the window. I held up my room key and told him it wouldn't unlock the door and asked him to please open up the door at the pool. He tried to open it, but apparently the panic bar was locked because he couldn't open it. I believe THAT is a fire code violation. I am pretty sure all exits are required to work from within 24/7/365 in order to comply with the fire code. I don't know if the other entrance doors also have locked panic bars, but perhaps an inspection by the local fire department is in order. We ended up having to walk all the way around the hotel to the main lobby entrance. When I questioned the front desk clerk as to why we were locked out is when I learned it was for "security reasons." I was told they lock us out at 9pm. Being that the doors require an active room key to unlock the doors, it begs the question as to how they need to increase security by disabling the room keys at 9pm. I believe it indicates a severe lack of awareness and foresight on the part of hotel management to not consider the possibility, if not the likelihood, of some guests returning to their rooms after 9pm. Furthermore, handicap parking is rendered non functional if you can't enter the building near the handicap parking spaces. Also, how does it enhance security forcing an elderly person or a young woman by herself being forced to walk through the parking lot all the way around the building late at night? Those are other factors that should have been considered but obviously weren't. I hate having to complain about something. I really do, and I understand we are all human, including me, and we are all sometimes thoughtless, and as a result, make life harder for others. I usually just let things go and move on. That said, this is an unnecessary and poorly thought out hardship on guests and I doubt much, if any, security benefit, more likely an increased security risk for guests. For that reason I felt compelled to warn others and also give management a not so subtle heads up. To be blunt, they really need to brighten up.
