“Our new hotspot for great food, cocktails, and happy hour”

This was our first time at the Spotted Donkey. We live literally four minutes away. I never even knew it was here. We are so glad we found this place. Such a beautiful setting. Incredible food and cocktails and our server. Megan went above and beyond making sure our experience was favorable and rememberable.

This resort has noticeably declined over the past few years. At rates exceeding $1,200 per night this time of year, the experience does not match the price, you’re getting closer to 3-star upkeep at a luxury cost. It feels like guest experience is secondary to staff convenience. Basic facility maintenance was poor throughout the property: damaged signage, patchy paint repairs, visible stains, and even water damage in a climate where that shouldn’t be an issue. Our sink didn’t drain properly, and the WiFi was consistently unreliable. Staff behavior was also frustrating. Walkways and entrances were frequently blocked by employees, at times forcing guests to squeeze past sharp cacti. Housekeeping knocked on the door at 8:30 a.m. daily, which felt intrusive. Cart drivers often avoided picking up guests unless they were young women, which was both noticeable and inappropriate. When I raised concerns about guest frustration at the pool and the cart service, management responded with assurances but made no effort to understand what actually happened. There was no follow-up, just lip service. The grounds themselves are beautiful, and the landscaping team clearly takes pride in their work. Unfortunately, that level of care is not reflected in the rest of the resort’s operations.
